Guest guest
Mike, a Few Tips What's so great about raw, is you just eat simply, (or buy terrific preparations from our wonderful raw chefs). Eat TONS of organic fruit. Doug Graham says bananas are the best thing for after a work out. Also eat salad, tons of salad. Dressings can be as easy as a squeeze of lemon, or you can throw some things in a blender to pour on top. For example, 1 or 2 tomatoes, a rib of celery(broken into a few pieces), 1/2 a lemon (or lime)squeezed in, some herbs (say a handful of cilantro) and blend for a few minutes. There is protein and fat in all fruits and veggies, but the sources with the most are your sprouts and beans (peas, sugar snap beans, soaked garbanzo beans,...), nuts have protein too, but they also have lots of fat. They should be limited to about 2 handfuls (2 oz.) a day. Also you can have an avocado a day which is good for you fat and protein. Guest guest
If Doug Graham comes to speak, you should definitely talk to him. He is extremely fit and strong. He has also trained Olympic level trampoline teams (almost certain) along with other athletes who were vegan/raw. He has a book called, NUTRITION AND ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE, which I found great. It also lists a number of well known athletes who are vegetarian/vegan or raw in the back of the book. Unless he has changed, his website is www.foodnsport.com BEV Mike Wesson [wessonmj] Saturday, November 06, 2004 1:55 AM Re: Digest Number 315 hey! i just joined the group...trying to eat right. right now im vegetarian trying to go vegan and raw, but i barely have time or education to cook typical foods without even thinking about vegan/raw. where does a brotha start!? i run track too, so i need muscle mass and energy...help needed. peace. mike
Guest guest
Hello /Mike: Welcome to ...members have given you lot's of thoughtful suggestions and book recommendations. Another thing you can try is to sprout your own organic raw sunflower seeds, the ones that have been hulled...you can soak them for six hours and let them sprout. I find it easy to soak them overnight, pour off the water and let them sprout that day..They are ready to eat either that evening or the next day. Sometimes I eat them the next morning after they have soaked, but if you let them sprout for a day, there is growth of the sprout. You'll pick your favorite things and rituals soon enough, but there is tremendous energy from the sunflower sprout.... Another helpful thing is just to read the e-mails from . There is always great conversation that includes helpful information about raw food, recipes, brief articles, etc. About once a month, I go back and copy the recipes shared, and other info...we are a great resource...Blessings, Ashtarra

I am not looking for any support from the group. I don't have any issues with wishing to eat meat or struggling, I've been a vegetarian for over ten years, and easily so. My post was responding to the *idea* that posting about nostalgic memories of meat was not appropriate here. I was simply trying to say that *some* people on the list may not feel supported if they are unable to express those feelings here, and that it seems more supportive to me to help people through those things instead of stifling them. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm just here for the recipes :-) Ken -- Version: 7.0.308 / Virus Database: 266.9.10 - Release 4/14/2005
Guest guest
Like " little 'ole me. " I am struggling. I grew up with meat and potatoes. I am eating more and more veggies and less and less and less meat. Old habits die hard. LOL.
