" The topic of climate change is not unrelated to vegetarianism, since the deforestation for pasture land is one of the leading causes of CO2 emissions. In John Robbins’ book, Diet For A New America, a study was cited which said that the Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Idaho) production of meat used as much water as all other uses of water combined, yet this production cannot meet even half of the demand in the Northwest. The rest of the meat has to come from places like Central America, which has been massively deforested for pasture land in the last 20-25 years. Meat production also requires more energy than plant-based foods, so there is another connection. Global warming, by the way, means more rain over all, since that water cycle is driven by solar energy... Mail Mobile Take Mail with you! Check email on your mobile phone. That's true, now that you remind me! Thanks, Tom. But I confess I have never actually *heard* it pronounced with a soft G - only read about the possibility of saying it that way. What do we need? LOL Another poll???? I was thinking about the Vee or Vay pronunciation of Vegan because friends recently visiting here were pronouncing if VAY-gan although waitstaff at our restaurants said VEE-gan - none of us commented on the pronunciation, though. Just thought I'd ask you guys! Right now the VEEs are winning over the VAYs 17 to 2 in the Poll. Anyone out there actually pronounce the word with a soft G in the middle as in 'vegetarian'? That is one positive starting step to helping our planet recover i think. namaste ~ pt ~ By not eating any meat in your meal you are helping to save our planet's forests. Did you know that since 1967, forests have been destroyed at the rate of 1 acre every 5 seconds to create grazing land for beef cattle to ensure a continuous supply of inexpensive meat for our fast food restaurants? By choosing to cook at home and making your family delicious, healthy vegan or vegetarian meals you are taking a postive step, not just for yourself, but for the planet. ~ Robin [aka pt in Grants Pass]
