Guest guest
The little cafe/restaurant next to the siteI used to work at made this fabulous herb cheese bread, and myself and my co-workers thought we'd never get the recipe. Low and behold, when the business changed hands, they gave out the recipe to us die hards... and here it is! While I'm sure it can be made vegan, I've personally never gotten used to the vegan cheeses, and still do have some egg in my diet. I remain staunchly ovo-lacto! Herbed Cheese Bread Combine: 2 cups flour 1 tbsp sugar 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp basil ½ tsp thyme ¼ tsp sage ¼ cup margarine cut in Add: 1 cup shredded medium/old/jack cheddar 1 egg, scrambled ½ cup yogurt ½ cup milk Dump into a round or square 9 " pan, sprinkle with poppy seeds, and bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Enjoy!! Cathrine

Since starting this list last year, however, I find I have strayed more and more away from dairy (I don't like eggs and could only really enjoy them when camouflaged) as I tried so many of the wonderful vegan versions of recipes produced by members - as well as the veganized veggie alternatives our moderator Maida often supplies for ovo-lacto dishes. So if I am now a strict vegetarian - no eggs, dairy or honey - you guys have only yourselves to blame LOL Best love, Pat
Guest guest
Catherine... This bread sounds interesting...I'll look forward to trying it one night with a soup. I laughed about your minestrone. Mine is never the same, ever, it is my favorite to mess with and use odds and ends/leftovers in!! Actually, my lentil soup is never the same twice either... I'm not much of a measurer when it comes to cooking... m

I mean, it's really only bee-regurgitated flower/tree necatar...*shrug* Gina
Guest guest
Hi, Here are a few pages discussing why honey is not vegan. http://www.vegetus.org/honey/honey.htm http://www.resanigo.most.org.pl/zwierzeta/honey.html http://www.vegsource.com/jo/qa/qahoney.htm there are issues like pain and death caused to bees in the manner in which humans gather honey, what the intent of the honey was for - feeding the bee larvae, not for feeding humans, etc. Gary --- YankeeDyke <yankeedyke wrote: > pengwhyn wrote: > > So if I am now a strict vegetarian - no eggs, > > dairy or honey - you guys have only yourselves to > blame LOL > > I'm kind of curious about why vegans don't eat > honey, since I've heard > this a lot and never really understood the why > behind it. Guest guest
Hi Catherine That herbed cheese bread sounds yummy, but I have a couple of questions: 1.Do you use fresh or dried herbs? 2. When you say " 1 egg, scrambled " , do you mean as in scrambled cooked egg, or just beaten with a fork? Thanks! Guest guest
Good morning I concur with Shyamala that it sounds good. My question is where is the yeast? I make a good herbed cheese bread in the bread machine but it calls for yeast. This is very different. Best regards Kirk
