Guest guest
Okay, guys, I'm the one who says she never but never (well, hardly ever) uses analogs - except, I always say, for cheez slices to add to 'salad' sandwiches now and then. Situations change, and I found myself needing something to make otherwise vegan dishes seem more like the so-called 'real thing'. Recently, therefore, I tried Tofutti cream cheese substitute and their sour creem and used them to great success. The cream cheez is awesome, as I'm sure people have said before - we like the French Onion and also the Garlic and Herbs, with a faint prejudice in favour of the former. The lack of a soygurt (or whatever it's called in different brands) made me buy the sour cream to use, thinned, to make sauces. Great success. We'll keep these in the fridge now - along with the cheez slices, which are the nicest soy cheez slices we have found, vegan or otherwise. And no, they're not paying me to say this LOL and no, no one has me on the rack to make me recant! Best, Pat
Guest guest
Beware, when using Tofutti products, since many of them contain trans fats (ie hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats) - NOT good for heart health. As far as I know, the uncheese slices all have this issue. They have one variety of plain uncream cheese that does NOT contain trans fats, which is the only one that they make available at Whole Foods. For sliced uncheese, Follow Your Heart brand is the best available. I posted a whole bunch of homemade uncheese recipes on Pat's other site, vegetarianslimming, since these recipes do have less fat, but they are not spicy. from Maida Citizens for Pets in Condos, http://www.petsincondos.org South Florida Vegetarian Events, http://www.soflavegevents.net

Ouch. Well so much for my brief joy in discovering a vegan product I actually liked and which was available to me here. Oh well, never mind - back to dairy, I guess LOL (As for the other brand you mention, it's not available everywhere in the world. Nor I suppose is Tofutti.) > I posted a whole bunch of homemade uncheese recipes on Pat's other site, > vegetarianslimming, since these recipes do have less fat, but they are > not spicy. Perhaps you could post them here for the benefit of those who don't want to be on the other list? You could post them in the already existing Faux Foods folder I set up when I started this list. They may not be 'spicy' as made, but they can certainly be added to spicy dishes, so they are not exactly OT for this group. That'd be really really great if you could! My various groups, although 'owned' by me, are not interdependent. I'm sure members would be very grateful indeed. Thanks for that info about transfats and hydrogenated oils in some/most Tofutti products, Maida. I should have paid closer attention to 'health' issues when posting about the product, but this is of course not a health list (although of course everyone has to take care of their health) and I do leave it to members to decide for themselves. Perhaps just a little of a product that contains transfats etc would be okay for some - just as eggs and dairy are eaten by some despite the cholesterol count . . . Oh dear, so much to worry about and so little time in which to do it! Gotta go and get a caffeine fix (cranky without my caffeine!LOL) - and yes, I know that some disapprove of caffeine too, but some don't - I'm going with those who don't right now at this time of the morning (7.30). Best love to you all - searching searching searching for Follow My Heart - Pat (in downtown London, Ontario, whose ValuMart doesn't even have Toffuti!)
