Guest guest
Hi All, I've been eavesdropping on this list about a week now and am impressed with all your passion! That said, I guess I'm a little surprised how little " raw food " is discussed; but this is totally understandable as all things are indeed connected. I need to comment about colonics. My wife suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome for many years. Colonics definitely helped her toward healing and, yes, they at the same time were *not* helpful with her insatiable need for more intestinal flora. It was a balancing act. By the way, she still has to miss out on all the vitality that comes from the vast majority of raw foods, unfortunately, as she gets flare-ups from eating " stiff " or " hard " foods. A couple years ago she actually was eating salads but then one she stopped in to a corporate restaurant (Applebee's) with a friend. She ordered nothing more than a lemon for her water and ... got food poisoning. Even if and when she's able to eat raw again, she swears she'll never eat it at a restaurant again. Nice talkin' with ya'll!
Guest guest
Hi Pat, I have a friend that works in the food business and he told me that they use beef broth in their " vegetarian vegetable soup " . Yuck! He just doesn't understand why they do that and call it vegetarian. ______________________ ______________________ Message: 1 Sun, 20 Nov 2005 23:34:36 -0000 " Pat " Soup experiment A couple of days ago we had lunch out at one of our favourite Italian restaurants and they were pleased to be able to offer us a vegetarian soup. Guest guest
Well thanks (I think!) LOL But we spoke with both co-owners, one of whom is the chef, and they've been providing us with veggie food and warning us off not-quite veggie food for some months now. But it *was* nice to find that there was a soup that was all veggie AND that they remembered to tell us about it as we walked it (without a booking). It tasted of vegetables, the ones in the soup, not of me*t. After all these years of eating veggie, we kinda taste the difference. However I think that it's a fair warning - I still remember getting a vegetarian soup in a world capital with a chicken bone in the bottom of the bowl :=( Best love, Pat > I have a friend that works in the food business and he told me that they use beef broth in their " vegetarian vegetable soup " . Guest guest
That's why I am always very particular when I ask " is there any chicken or beef stock in this soup? " because just asking " does this soup contain meat " because many people seem to think it's not meat if its stock! Guest guest
I have worked in restaurants in the past and was pretty shocked at the things that were told to customers. Then the wait staff would laugh and laugh. I don't think it's funny. There are things that could cause serious problems by not being honest, or by not bothering to ask to find out if there are eggs, peanuts, msg, etc. The last place I worked was very elegant and would offer veggie dishes upon special request. And they were really vegetable dishes but the owner/cook was so abusive in the kitchen tho he'd go out and ask how the customer liked it, and then send out a check charging them a huge amount for what amounted to veggies and pasta and couldn't have been worth more than $1.95. Of course the same jerk also vented his wrath at guys who wanted their steaks well done, so basically everyone got it from him. With all these wonderful recipes there's plenty that can be offered. If someone would open a vegetarian restaurant here in Guanajuato they might do well. The 2 places that I know of which have vegetarian dishes are very popular. Even non-vegetarians like them to get away from the same old Mexican stuff. Colleen --- Pat <veggiehound wrote: > Well thanks (I think!)
