Guest guest
Sunchokes I slice and cover with lemon juice and chili powder and eat, I also prepare jicama this way. The beets I don't care too mcuh for so I avoid those. The aquash I would roast or steam and make a pumpkin or squash soup from a recipe in the files. Potatoes I steam and sprinkle herbs on and mix with a little mayonnaise and eat as a side dish. Hope this gives you a few ideas..Sissy , Cathrine Qua <cathrineq@r...> wrote: > > I forgot to mention that I have squash, too! Guest guest
Hi all, Here's what I have in my fridge that needs to be used up: beets, sunchokes, and yellow mini potatoes. Of course, I have onions and garlic. Does anyone have suggestions/ideas/recipes on what I can make with them? Thanks!! Cathrine

Guest guest
On this list you'll be looking for hot and spicy suggestions, right? Just at a rough guess at your taste, how about sautee-ing the onions with some garlic and adding chunks of potatoes and squash with some curry spices (a blend of the usual suspects or use a commercial blend) and then coconut milk? As for the beets, there are a couple of beet curry recipes in the files too. If you can find the nub end of a cucumber and some yoghurt and mint, then you've got a nice raita to go with. Best love, Pat > Here's what I have in my fridge that needs to be used up: beets, > sunchokes, and yellow mini potatoes. Of course, I have onions and > garlic. Guest guest
Hot and spicy would be preferred, that's for sure! But... maybe I haven't tried the right curry, the only kind I've been exposed to is the yellow smelly kind, and it really turns me off. Are there other curries out there that are a lot different? Curries tend to be aromatic ('smelly' is your word) and yellow in colour because of the spices included in them, including turmeric (yellow root). If you don't like them, then you don't like them :=) It hadn't occurred to me that you wouldn't, or I wouldn't have suggested it. If you indeed dislike Indian curries, then it makes little difference whether you use a home-made mix of spices or a commercial blend - it'll all taste 'smelly' to you, even though curry afficionadoes (which include a huuuuuge number of people) would correctly add that home-ground and home-mixed spices are the best. Have you ever tried a vegetarian meal in a good Indian restaurant? Unbeatable. Unless, of course, you find them yellow and smelly and off-turning LOL Pat - who absolutely reeks of curry most of the time (don't breathe in!) :=)
Guest guest
See that's the thing... I did eat at an Indian Restaurant and loved it. It wasn't the yellow curry that I've seen before. What was it?? Cath Pat wrote: > > > Hot and spicy would be preferred, that's for sure!
