Guest guest
This is mostly in reply to the previous post. Some additional thoughts have wandered in. (I apologize for length, but brevity seems to be getting me into hot water.) >. . . I should not have understated it. I am NOT talking about broken English, but one where I have no clue as to whether or not they understood my question and that has nothing to do with a mild language barrier. That's clearer now. The situation is always frustrating, I know. >I was not criticizing them at all, I was pointing out, which you apparently missed, that it makes going to restaurants difficult to do since I am a vegan and I need to be sure that I am not eating something that I object to. I didn't miss that - I do know what a vegan is. >I am offended by your harsh and judgmental reply. You have made a huge leap and " assumed " something not there. Perhaps it is just that you don't understand the complexities of veganism as I observe it. But it absolutely has nothing to do with what you have presumed. And since you quoted me it was directed at me. Well, I remain sad that Chinese restaurants get a bad rap, that old history/baggage plus language problems often cause these restaurants to have a doubtful reputation. This is especially sad since some of the best food in the world is produced by Cantonese chefs - including vegetarian and vegan food (yes, when you can get it). I stand by that. I suggested that 'no chicken' might mean literally 'no chicken' - something we are agreed on . . . The 'complexities of veganism as [you] observe it'? Well of course I can't know that. But I suspect you might have overjudged your singularity here. Please don't berate me for things that you assume I assumed, okay? I don't quite understand why you should think I am ignorant of and unsympathetic to vegans. As for being harsh and judgmental, I don't see that at all. I really don't. It wasn't intended and I don't see it in what I wrote. I thought we had a good discussion going here, Linda. I quoted you as a start to what I had to say - to indicate what my line of thought was. My musings, however, were not intended for you alone. To conclude this overlong post, I would advise anyone to stay away from places in which they cannot place their confidence. I also try, when I think I can get a good hearing, to let places I go to know how easy it is to make something vegetarian and even vegan. Many are willing to make up something especially for us - the chef often loves the challenge - sometimes right on the spot. Luxury. Bliss. Anyone else had any happy experiences like that? I would imagine so. They don't all hate us out there - or at least they like the business! And now, Linda, a query for you (and of course anyone else reading): You mention Mexican restaurants. Do you find that they are more suitable to your needs? I'm always worried about lard. And of course the cheese is a problem . . .
