Guest guest
I don't know about for the crockpot, but I recently checked out a South Beach Diet Cookbook from the library because it had vegetarian recipes (not vegan, but you could adjust). A lot of them had beans (legumes) and vegetables. Anyway, here are some links that I found a while back.... http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/recipecollection.html This second one I had saved as South Beach Diet recipes, but the recipe on the top is adapted from the south beach diet - I'm not sure about the ones on the bottom. I'm short on time right now, so sorry if this one isn't appropriate...... http://www.care2.com/channels/solutions/food/931 Linda :-) - <quintmom <Undisclosed-Recipient:;> Thursday, June 16, 2005 5:54 PM > Hey Everyone, > I'm going to a friend's house tomorrow for dinner. The deal was that she would provide the drinks and I would provide the food (it was visa versa last time we got together). Here's the problem though - she and her dh are on the South Beach Diet. I have no idea what to make for them with them being on this diet. They are very open and in fact look forward to the vegan meals I have made for them in the past so that isn't a problem. It's just that I have no idea what the South Beach Diet is or what I can make for them that fits in with their plan. Does anyone have any ideas for this - right away please? > >

Guest guest
I think any vegan dish that you would normally prepare would be fine for your friends. But perhaps not a pasta dish. What phase of the diet are they at? " There are basically three phases in SB Diet. You eat normal portion sizes In Phase 1, but all carbohydrate are restricted. This is the strictest phase in the diet and will last for two weeks. It emphasizes lean meats, such as chicken, turkey, fish, and shellfish. Low-Glycemic-index vegetables are allowed as well as low-fat cheese, nuts, eggs. Dieters should expect to lose somewhere between 8 to 13 pounds. In Phase 2, some of the banned food are slowly introduced while weight loss continue to around 1-2 pounds per week. You should remain on it until you lost your desired amount of weight. Phase 3 is for maintenance and should be followed for life. Is all about maintaining your desired weight with a healthy balanced diet. Should your weight begin to climb, simply return to Phase 1. " This is from the same website as this list of acceptable foods: http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/food_list.html Hope this helps a little, Renee On 6/16/05, quintmom <quintmom wrote: > > Hey Everyone, > I'm going to a friend's house tomorrow for dinner. Guest guest
As far as I know South Beach Diet eliminates bad carbs. It's not as severe as Atkins in that it doesn't restrict carbs that are healthy for you like whole grain/whole wheat breads and pastas and fruit and veggies. Basically any refined sugars are out. I would ask your friends though to get a clearer understanding...but that is what I think it is. HTH Kirsten quintmom wrote: Hey Everyone, > I'm going to a friend's house tomorrow for dinner. Guest guest
Hi April! Many store-bought cake mixes are vegan, and one can use Ener-G egg replacer in place of the eggs. Most Duncan Hines cake mixes are vegan. Best wishes!! Mary --- April London <april wrote: > My son will be turning 7 on Monday and I'd really > love a chocolate cake > recipe for him. Guest guest
Wow! This is very good to know, and something I never would have guessed. The rare times when I do make dietary exceptions are for birthday cakes. Now I just have to bring the cake myself and I'll know it's safe. Thanks, Mary. Guest guest
I have had a horrible time with cakes and brownies using the Ener-G egg replacer. Any tips? They come out oily and gooey and sometimes really hard on the bottom. I haven't had this problem with egg replacer in other things though.Mary Boehler <mbb73 wrote: Hi April! Many store-bought cake mixes are vegan, and one canuse Ener-G egg replacer in place of the eggs. Guest guest
Same here, that's why I don't use the store bought chocolate cake mixes anymore. It works fine for the yellow cake mixes but I can never make it work with chocolate! Guest guest
Good morning Leticia First off I enjoyed your sign off. " With warm, summer greetings from Chile, Leticia " When I do up my chilis I just add the boiled peppers to a jar that is filled with sugar and vinegar. It keeps for at least a year as I have eaten them and no problem. With cold, snow covered, unplowed roads greetings from Canada. Guest guest
Marsha, I bet this would work for a coating for cheese balls. I used to buy a mix at Cost Plus World Market, but have not seen it again. You can mix cream cheese and cheddar (or vegan versions of same), roll it into a ball, then roll it in the spice mix and chill. I'll have to try it! from Maida Citizens for Pets in Condos, http://www.petsincondos.org South Florida Vegetarian Events, http://www.soflavegevents.net Dry Vegetable Broth Mix 1 tbl. onion powder 1 tbl. dried parsley flakes 1 1/2 tsps. garlic powder 1 1/2 tsps. celery salt 1/2 tsp. ground sage 1/2 tsp. dried marjoram 1/2 tsp. dried thyme 1/2 tsp. dried basil 1/2 tsp. dried oregano 1/4 tsp. pepper 1/4 tsp. dried dill weed Combine all ingredients and mix well. Store in a jar with a tightly fitting lid. Stir before each use. Use 1 rounded teaspoon to each cup of water. Will season 12 cups of water for soup. Guest guest
Hi Augstina, welcome! I love that we are representing such a global community these days . My name is Heather, I've been with radiant recovery 6 years. I am not a vegetarian, but I'm here to help support those of you who are! And hey, I love a good vegetarian recipe . Oh and I live near Washington, DC, USA Heather on behalf of Agustina Colombo Eiff Sun 2/19/2006 9:04 PM Hi everybody. My name is Agustina and I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I've been following the program since November. I'm on step 3 right now. I could see some amazing changes after only a few weeks and although I have my ups and downs things are only getting better and better. I live with my husband and two daughters, ages 6 and 1. The elder is following the program with great enthusiasm, too. After being vegetarians for some years we went onto a vegan macrobiotic diet for about 5 years. Later on and for different reasons we started adding eggs but no diary, and some time after that we added some cheese (mostly ricotta and cottage cheese). This was some 3 or 4 years ago. I ate meat a few times during my last pregnancy just because I craved for it. Being a vegetarian was part of a search - although I was never sure what I was searching for. Now I realize I was trying to bring some order into my eating and fill a gap in my life. Having someone (in this case, vegetarianism) telling me what to eat and what not to eat made my feel more confident and less anxious. However, sugar always seaked in. Somehow. I knew somehing was wrong and it had to do with the sugar in my life. I foud this amazing program by just typing " sugar addiction " into a search engine. So, I started eating meat in order to be able to fit 20-22g of protein into every meal. Sometimes I eat tofu (not much because I'm afraid it might interfere with my thyroid medication) or lentils or beans. Sometimes it's eggs. Meat has become a large part of my diet (at least compared to my " previous life " !) and although I have to admit I'm feeling great, I'd like to start cutting down. I would love to share vegetarian recipes and learn more about getting enough protein without eating animals. I look forward to meating y'all! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Agustina
