Guest guest
Okay, I've recently discovered seaweed / sea vegetables (well, duh!) and am absolutely IN LOVE :-) Sooooo, apart from dumping it in miso soup, in salads, mixing with spicy garbanzos, etc., I decided the other day (inspired by a dish enjoyed by a friend :-) - you know who you are!) to just soak it and eat it. Here's what I did, as a tiny side dish to a main meal: SEA VEGETABLE SALAD WITH CHILIES AND SESAME (VEGAN) 3 Tbsp wakame (I imagine shredded nori or most other seaweeds would work) soaked in hot water for 1/2 hour, drained, rinsed, etc. Rice wine vinegar - enough to sprinkle over and toss with the lovely green stuff Crushed red chilies - 1/2 tsp or more or less according to taste (I used plenty) Freshly ground black pepper - I enjoy the different effect of the differing 'hot' peppers on the palate Tamari to taste - again, this is an individual matter - you are mixing the liquids and seasonings with the seaweed and you can certainly taste when it is right for you. But pretend it is a vinaigrette, the vinegar and the shoyu, and work from there. two green onions / scallions, VERY finely chopped Half a tsp or so of sesame oil to finish the dish tsp toasted sesame seeds (optional) Mix together everything but the green onions, sesame oil and the sesame seeds. Toss carefully. Add the chopped green onions, dash or sesame oil, sprinkle with the sesame seeds and, if needed, a tiny dash of tamari over all. Chill and serve.
