There are plenty of other cuisines, Cathrine, so there's no need for anyone to eat what they don't like. I should mention (for the sake of those who missed this before) that 'curry' covers a lot - as I have mentioned before in this context - and is a many-spiced gravied dish, plain and simple. You will find 'curries' on the menu of restaurantas of many different ethnic groups - not only the many groups of what we now call India. And they are all different. And I have personally never found one I could not enjoy! Just the wonderful aroma of spices is enough to make me smile. But this 'discussion' made me think - You know, people are often, most understandably, very attached to and proud of their own particular native or adopted cuisine. Food can be as much a part of personal identity as nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, citizenship, etc. I think this is fabulous - that's what makes a list like Vegetarian Spice so exciting. And these food loyalities and interests are what make this group work so well. If we didn't want to share our own favourites - old family recipes or newly discovered ones - and rejoice when someone praises them, then there'd be only a dull old recipe-exchange list here, interesting perhaps to recipe collectors, but without the life and excitement and diversity that had rewarded so many of us over and over again. We are all veg*ns or veg-friendly here, but Vegetarian Spice does indeed go further than that. And it is that one step further, to curiousity, acceptance, friendship and above all tolerance, for which I thank you all. Hope you are all enjoying the holiday season - or at least getting through it with the minimum of traumas ;-) Best love to you and your families - wherever you or they may be - Pat (yup, the one who is still List Owner and general dogsbody) in SW Ontario, Canada
