Searched on for vegan recipes. Too many vegetarian recipes have cheese and/or other dairy products in them. Ditto at restaurants. I could cry. This list particularly appealed to me because I love Mexican, Thai, and Indian food--spice is wonderful! I love hot foods. > 7) What is your favourite (vegetarian) food or meal? Ohhh that's tough. I'm very fond of palak paneer and eggplant parm, but I can't have either of these anymore. *cries* Anyone know of any vegan Indian or Italian places around Boston? I'd love to find the tofu version of palak paneer because I adore that dish oh so much, and I suspect that this list is the perfect place to find it. Favorite vegan meal thus far is eggless tofu salad sandwich. I discovered these at the local GNC store and wow, were they super delicious and happily vegan. I plan to make them on my own from now on. I also am addicted to cucumbers, portabello mushrooms, zucchini, and yellow squash. At potlucks they put in an extra cucumber in the salad just because I'm a cucumber fiend. > 8) What is your least favourite (vegetarian) food or meal? Anything fried. Fried food causes my stomach to commit sepuku just as surely as if I ate a meat and cheese meal. I can't even have fried *veggies*. So my mission to eat veggie foods, but eat *healthy* veggie foods that are not fried or greasy. > 9) Tell us a few of your favourite things :=) Sushi! I am addicted to sushi, particularly the spicy tuna rolls. That and lox is preventing me from jumping full force into ovo-vegetarianism or even veganism. I also love chai. Soy chai makes me do the dance of joy. > 10) Anything else? I got to my diet because I have a zillion food intolerances (ibs) and this is the easiest way to handle it. I suspect that I'm not the only one on here like this. I also am health and nature conscious and have been eating organic and/or kosher everything as far as any of my food choices are concerned, animal product or otherwise. This is a nice and easy switch given how few restaurants serve organic or kosher foods, and I can be even more mindful about what I eat. -- AIM: Kyrene Ariadne : kyreneariadne * Dadoukhoi http://www.dadoukhoi.org/ * Temenos Theon: http://kyrene.4t.com * Boston Mysticism Boston_Mystic * NewEngland Hellenists: NewEngland_Hellenists Beloved Pan, and all ye other gods who haunt this place, make me beautiful within, and grant that what-ever happens outside of me will help my soul to grow. Hello Kyrene! Welcome to Vegetarian Spice! Curious... how'd you get your online name (if ya feel like sharing the story...) > > 4) How long have you been a vegetarian and/or a vegan? > > A few weeks now, but I've been borderline for some time. I just am not willing to give up Balderson aged cheddar or eggs. > > 6) How did you learn about Vegetarian Spice (invitation, search, > friend, another group)? > > Searched on for vegan recipes. I love hot foods. ....and you will find all of those foods here - and many more! If it's spicy, it's here - and I have to be honest, this is a fantastic list with very talented and creative cooks! > > 7) What is your favourite (vegetarian) food or meal? > > Ohhh that's tough. I am pretty sure you'll find the recipe in our files - and if not, someone here will be happy to provide it to you! > I also am addicted to cucumbers, portabello mushrooms, zucchini, and > yellow squash. Actually, tomorrow I'm making my roasted veggies, which ALWAYS have portabellos, zucchini, and yellow squash if I can find it. And, of course, sweet peppers, button or cremini mushrooms and grape tomatoes ! I love raw cucs, too! > > 8) What is your least favourite (vegetarian) food or meal? > > Anything fried. I think tuna (ok, in a tuna sandwich, not raw) is one of the few things that I still crave after 17 years of being a veggie, although I've not eaten it in that time. I'm still trying to find tuno in Canada (the canned has been discontinued, I think, and apparently for good reason! I'd love to find the frozen in or around Toronto - or a company that would ship it to me.) > > 10) Anything else? > > I got to my diet because I have a zillion food intolerances (ibs) and > this is the easiest way to handle it. I've also got IBS, and unfortunately find it's affected by hot & spicy foods, but I enjoy them so much I just live with it! I eat as much organic as possible, too. Aside from knowing it's so much better for me, I just tastes better! Cathrine (your welcome mod)
