I did not notice that. The message is a good one, and a powerful one that would overshadow the 'keep eating meat' message, if it really is in there. tony
Guest guest
well, you have to remember that for most people, just creating the awareness of where their " food " comes from is enough to get the ball rolling towards a full vegan or veggie lifestyle. keep in mind that the vast majority of people don't understand or don't care about the principles behind vegetarianism and veganism. but by introducing them to general concepts - how pollution is connected to meat production and factory farms, or how modern farming is brutal to animals - we can guide them to expand those concepts and create a better understanding of the connections between food, the economy, the environment, and compassion for animals. i believe that a large percentage of meat eaters who are moved enough by that video to choose more humanely slaughtered flesh will eventually come to realize that " humane " and " slaughter " only exist together in orwell's imagination. but people have to come to that conclusion on their own, and it's through these kind of wedge issues that we'll get mainstream folks to pay attention. " Yes, unfortunately, once the animation is over and the cow tells you to click on the red pill to find out more about the truth about meat you will see options including something about how to avoid Factory Farmed meat. If you click on that option it advises you to buy meat that is not factory farmed. If only there was a way to show people the animation without giving them access to that part of it because then it would be a really great messege. Anyone out there know how to do Flash animation? Guest guest
I agree with Steve. For most people, the path is a series of small steps, not giant leaps. Having people make the connection between what's on their plate and how it got there is a good thing, and steering them towards more humane choices is a great step for the animals. Many people want to make a difference, but they're not about to go vegan overnight. There need to be definite steps they can take to make a difference without requiring them to totally change their entire lifestyle. I think this is a good animation aimed at people outside of the normal veggie-friendly circles. It's well and good to preach to the choir, but these kinds of messages are the ones that will have more effect, IMHO, both short and long term. -Kim On Mon, 3 Nov 2003, Steve Simitzis wrote: > well, you have to remember that for most people, just creating the > awareness of where their " food " comes from is enough to get the ball > rolling towards a full vegan or veggie lifestyle. > > keep in mind that the vast majority of people don't understand or > don't care about the principles behind vegetarianism and veganism. but > by introducing them to general concepts - how pollution is connected > to meat production and factory farms, or how modern farming is brutal > to animals - we can guide them to expand those concepts and create a > better understanding of the connections between food, the economy, the > environment, and compassion for animals. > > i believe that a large percentage of meat eaters who are moved enough > by that video to choose more humanely slaughtered flesh will > eventually come to realize that " humane " and " slaughter " only exist > together in orwell's imagination. but people have to come to that > conclusion on their own, and it's through these kind of wedge issues > that we'll get mainstream folks to pay attention. Guest guest
I sent this animation to all of my meat eating friends and they all loved it. Here's one comment: " i am so tired of seeing pamphlets with bloody dying animals. I really like this approach, and says the same thing - intriguing. I sent it to my friend who's a HUGE carnivore and LOVES the matrix, it was perfect " -Rose
Guest guest
Now I see why the UK Vegan Society has no beef with The Meatrix. They use this link: http://www.bancruelfarms.org/meatrix/ Which does not point to the free-range meat places. Therefore, use this link instead. tony On Nov 4, 2003, at 10:14 AM, Biguyskrsf wrote: > On Nov 3, 2003, at 8:34 PM, biguyskrsf wrote: > >> Yes, it is great EXCEPT for the fact that it still recommends that >> people eat >> meat, just not factory farmed meat. > > Tony wrote: > " I did not notice that. Guest guest
I watched the " Meatrix " and it didint have any emotional effect on me what so ever. I think it is the heart wrenching photos of real animals in slaughterhouses among all the cruelty that really touches people and makes them think twice about there next hamburger. I think the " Meatrix " did provide good facts about the dangers of factory farming to the enviorment, but i dont think the animation provides the visual images that stick with people and in some cases make people realize eating meat is not something they feel moraly good about. I am just suprised at how many people have said they think the film is so great to convert meat eaters, because if i still ate meat it wouldnt have effected me in the least. lindsay
Guest guest
The vast majority of my meat-eating friends, family members, and " spammed audience " have one thing in common: (They have not seen a single actual footage of factory farms or slaughter houses) AND (They do NOT want to look at real pictures, watch real videos, or listen to stories about these things) So for this type of audience, I think the MEATRIX does a great job of " easing " them into the topic. I was very comfortable sending it out to my friends without fear of offending them. Guest guest
As a kinda New Year present, we remind you of The Meatrix found via several links of course, but this once comes to us via friend Renuka: http://www.bancruelfarms.org/meatrix/ Even if you've seen it, see it again - great stuff! And send it along to a friend. Sometimes it's all that's needed to help someone make the change that they were just about ready to make but needed an extra nudge :-) Best love - and I'd better say it now cuz the weekend is almost upon us - Happy 2006 everyone!
