Guest guest
I wonder if there are any/many diabetics on this list. I've received notice via email and snailmail this last week of a couple of friends and also some cyberfriends (list members) who have just been diagnosed as diabetic or prediabetic. Naturally, this brings a bit of a crisis and the need to face a whole new lifestyle. So I wonder if anyone who is diabetic or pre-diabetic would kindly contact me - off list by all means is fine at veggiehound - to tell me if they are and would be interested in exchanging experiences, ideas, some recipes or at least tapping into a discussion with others. No biggie, but I think I must try :-) Thanks, all. Best love, Pat
Guest guest
My husband has type 2 diabetes. Being overweight, I am at risk. There is an excellent book out, Diabesity, that covers all aspects of the diabesity epidemic. More and more people at younger and younger ages are being diagnosed with this disease. from Maida Citizens for Pets in Condos, http://www.petsincondos.org South Florida Vegetarian Events, http://www.soflavegevents.net
Guest guest
Hi Maida, I also am type 2 diabetic. I have been vegan for almost 18 months and am off glucophage and cholesterol medications. I am lucky to have a wonderful doctor that encouraged me when I told him of being vegan. I also live in Florida. Judy , " Maidawg " <maidawg@c...> wrote: > > My husband has type 2 diabetes. Guest guest
Hey, everyone! I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes two weeks ago. I figured it was coming, so I wasn't TOO surprised. I just miss my soda. A lot. lol! I bought an ADA diabetic vegetarian cookbook last week. Hopefully there's some good stuff in there! I was also diagnosed as protein-deficient and anemic, so I need to find recipes for that as well. Oh, and I'd love to join in on an idea/experience/whatever exchange! Guest guest
Hi All, I am not diabetic, but i would like to share all of you my sister in law's case that may inspire all those who are diabetics to stick on being a vegetarian.I am a midwife but i happened to work in an specialist clinics in a Diabetic and hypertensive clinic and Dermatology and Veneriology clinic that gives me more ideas on these kinds of diseases.Ive been on that area for 12 years. My sister in law is hypertensive, high cholesterol level and she suffered a mild stroke due to the mentioned medical problem despite of maintaining medicines, behind these problems,is her manner of not controlling her diet. She suffered a mild stoke, she lost temporarily her memory, facial palsy and facial deformity, slurred speech. She was in ICU for a week.Since my children are vagans and involved in alternative medicine, but just to emphasize to everyone that our main point here is the benifit of being a vegetarian OK? I was asked by my brother to help him take care of her wife. That was great i was given the chance to interfere with her diet, she weas started on insulin injection and other medicines, once she was out in ICU i told my brother to take her home and let me take care of her,and we did. There i had the full control of everything,I now the risk but I did it with full courage.Ive ask the doctor to change the insulin injection to a tablet,I totally put her on a vagan diet, increasing her water intake, giving her massage therapy, reducing her medicines slowly instead giving her herbs that concerns her medical problem. In a weeks time we brought her back to the hospital for check up,and the doctor was surprised for her fast recovery, they asked me if she was taking her prescribed medicines and i said yes which is of course a big lie.In a matter of three weeks I was able to withdraw her tottaly from her medical medicines, instead i kept her on vagan food without giving her any kind of medicines except for neurologic medicine for her slurred speech, now blood pressure is stable, blood sugar is well controlled, theonly left is the the very slight speech problem and shes back to work,Now you will judge it yourself, and stick on your vegetarian food!
