Guest guest
> I did check Worcestershire Sauce, but only if vegan! Traditional > Worcestershire Sauce contains anchovies (fish, that is). Yes. Worcestershire sauce made in the traditional manner not only fails to be *vegan* it is not even *vegetarian* because of the anchovies/fish which give it its distinctive flavour. Perhaps it's not necessary to mention it here, but regardless of what some may try to tell us (servers in restaurants, for example!), fish is not a vegetarian food and is as much an 'animal' or a 'meat' (if offered as food) as any other fellow creature which had a face or a mama. This would also be a good time to send up warnings about the Thai curry pastes which traditionally have fish sauce in them. Veg*n varieties are available, however, and I know because I have veg*n varieties of both Worcestershire Sauce and the Thai curry pastes in my cupboards right now. That part of Asia btw often uses fish sauce, fish paste, whatever, and ingredients lists have to be carefully checked. (I have even had veg*n 'oyster' sauce, not a hot sauce of course, in the past and see it for sale at one of the stalls in our central market.) Major Rule - when it comes to buying anything that has more than one ingredient in its makeup - ALWAYS read the ingredients and be suspicious of any ingredient which you don't understand - including 'Natural Flavourings' which may be from I DID say in my preamble to the Poll - it's part of the 'Question' part, last sentence, I believe - 'Vegan versions of all the following are assumed.' Of course, in all cases, anything 'vegan' is also 'vegetarian' (although the reverse is often not true). Thanks for raising this issue, Maida. Very important!
