Guest guest
I was on the board of a food coop for 10 1/2 years. Eating healthy is expensive because standard food is artificially cheap in the United States for many, largely political reasons. Look into it--you will be amazed. But, if you want good quality food, it is expensive. Now that I can afford it, I buy organic whenever I can. I avoid artificial preservatives, hydrogenated fat, etc. And, organic tomatoes and melons taste much better. Fortunately, I have a food coop in my town and the prices are much more reasonable than in a health food store. As a vegetarian, I eat pretty simply--miso soup with locally made organic tofu, ministrone soup made with organic navy beans, etc. We have a great farmers market in my community and you can get great organic produce at reasonable prices. I plant chard, parsely, and garlic among my roses. I try to make whole wheat rolls from scratch with organic whole what flour from the Coop. You can eat healthy reasonably, but it truly helps to be a vegetarian . Kathleen M. Pelley Knitters are Real Purls
