Guest guest
More on this topic: I was only reporting what I found out about liquid Certo. Sure-Jell might be different, especially if PETA sanctions it. The PROBLEM with Kraft is that they do not care whether an item is vegetarian or not, only that it is not something that causes a law suit over an allergic reaction. Even if it was certified vegetarian at one point (pleasing PETA), you can not count on them (BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE) to make sure it stays that way. That is why I prefer to use agar (agar agar). You can find that at Asian groceries and at some health food stores. Maybe pure pectin would work, without all of the other additives. I did a search on Sure-Jell and was pointed to Kraft International (a different result than for Certo, which was Kraft Canada). I followed the link to e-mail them with a question to see what they say about the product. I will post their answer as soon as I receive one. from Maida Citizens for Pets in Condos, http://www.petsincondos.org South Florida Vegetarian Events, http://www.soflavegevents.net Maidawg [maidawg] Sunday, March 19, 2006 1:56 PM ' ' OT: Re: Recipe Request: Hot Pepper Freezer Jelly?Digest Number 593 Sherry said, " Wow, I can see that I'm not getting all of my messages via email. I didn't get Maida's. Maida, I checked the Certo ingredients, and I'm confused about which one isn't vegetarian. " The fruit pectin IS OKAY, since the label says from lime peels. Lactic acid and citric acid are sometimes from animal and sometimes from plant sources. Kraft frequently changes to the best available source and does not care about the tracking the source of ingredients unless it is an allergen. They care about being sued, bottom line. I don't even know about the other minor ingredients, but I stopped there where I found out about their attitude regarding ingredients. I would love to see certified vegetarian and certified vegan labels on food. I am tired of reading all the small print. from Maida Citizens for Pets in Condos, http://www.petsincondos.org South Florida Vegetarian Events, http://www.soflavegevents.net
