Guest guest
Hello, BK, welcome to Vegetarian Spice and congratulations on your decision to become vegetarian :-) Good for you! It's a big decision, of course, but I guarantee it's not one you'll regret! We have lots of good recipes for grrrrreat veggie dishes - and if there is anything at all you need to know, don't hesitate to ask - there are lots of people here (yes, even in the summertime) who would be happy to help, as I would myself. Btw I'm Pat - group host - and I live in southwestern Ontario, Canada, with my dh and our three furkids. I'm a longtime vegetarian (recently turned completely vegan - such fun!). This group, however, has discussions and recipes for *all* kinds of vegetarian eating styles Best love, Pat
Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome, Pat. It is not always easy, at my age, to change my way of eating. We gave up beef about two years ago, but every once in a while, my dh slips! Recently gave up pork. We are both 70 years old and the habits of years are really hard to break. We drove past Rib Country yesterday and I really wanted some ribs with their special hot bbq sauce. I have hunted for a rib replacement but haven't found it yet. Again... thanks for the welcome. sue ---- Patricia Sant 08/06/06 12:04:00 Welcome, BK! Total sympathy here. But it's not really that difficult once you have decided to make the change. As for age, well, that can be an asset. There are others your age or close to it on this list - and I myself, although admittedly very very young, will be 66 soon. We have the advantage that we don't have to argue with protective parents, aunts, grandmothers, etc., over how we choose to live our lives. Or shouldn't anyway LOL > We drove past Rib Country yesterday and I really wanted some ribs with their > special hot bbq sauce. > I have hunted for a rib replacement but haven't found it yet. Oh I think perhaps someone here might be able to help you. I don't much care for meat analogs myself (although I've run across a few exceptions, usually in restaurants), but I know there are some very good ones out there. As for temptation, don't worry about it here. We don't talk about me*t at all for fear of undermining the resolve of newbies like yourself (and of course even those of us who have been veggie for years can sometimes have a strange nostalgic yearning for something - and yes, it's usually the sauce, not the me*t itself!). I hope you've had the time to look at our recipes - some wonderful ones have been contributed by members past and present - and if there's anything in particular that you'd like to make, just ask and someone should have a tried-and-true recipe (ALL our recipes are kitchen-tested by members before posting!)
