Guest guest
Wow, my first interaction on this list and it's this! How perfect I'm Cori and I've been vegetarian for 9 years, and vegan on and off during that time (it's the d " " n dairy that keeps popping up). So I decided to go full on again and stick to it, but this time what's different is that I'm reaching out to others so I'll have a large support system if I get tired again. I live in Arlington, WA USA on 5 acres, in a yurt (http://yurt.com), I built a composting toilet, and we use water catchment for our water system I'd love to also connect with people in my area so if you live around me, send me an email if you like! >I love animals because...they understand me and don't put up any walls. > >I think Pythagoras is cool because...ummm Triangles. > >My favourite vegetarian restaraunt in my area is...Bamboo Garden and Araya's. > >Sometimes when I think of all the animals being exploited I... get really frustrated and have all this energy, but don't know what to do with it. Where can I make a huge impact without going on a shooting spree? > >The best thing about being veg*n is...I feel better, my body feels better, and I'm not contributing to the harm of any animals > >The trouble with being veg*n is...I have to be so aware all the time and watch and read ingredients. When I go to a place and I know everything is vegan, I get this freeing feeling...it's so exciting that I can have ANYTHING on the menu and not have to ask about this or that. It's actually really sad. > >A book that has really inspired me is... > >A person who has really inspired me is...Greg Bennick - a hardcore, straight-edge band leader who lives by example. > >Meat-eaters...are less evolved than veg*ans (actually it's true...I'll ask my scientist friend for the details). > >My favourite vegan junk food is... Soy Delicious ice cream Neopolitan. > >My favourite vegan dish is... PHAD THAI!!!!!! No eggs, no fish sauce, add tofu & veggies, 2 star, Yummm! > >McDonalds sucks because... let me count the ways What is it, 5 BILLION served? How many cows is that? The people that work there handle the animals everyday and probably don't even think about it. It's sad. If they did, I don't think anyone would work there and the establishment would go DOWN, DoWn, Down, down > >I joined Planet-Vegan because... I want to connect with more people like me! And get support because it can be very trying out there in the big world. > >My favourite famous vegetarian is... Gillian Anderson >(See: http://www3.sympatico.ca/anji/famous.html ) > >My plan to change the world is... > >Special bonus trivia question!!! > >Who said: " Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for >survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian >diet " ??? Guest guest
Hi Si, don't worry I know exactly how you feel, as I'm sure most people on this list do. I haven't eaten meat since I was five, and although there's still sometimes the odd 'alien' feeling, it's nothing like what it was like when I was growing up, and vegetarianism was still considered a bit of a puzzlement, let alone veganism! Trust me, it does get better when you've been vegan for a while (you said you've been vegan for a year, and veggie a year before that - I don't know if that feels like a long time to you!), when you get used to the new lifestyle, and you've heard all the stupid questions and know how to deal with them. But it can be hard, not knowing any other vegans. I didn't know a single vegan when I changed, nor did I use the internet so I didn't have that wealth of information either - I got info from groups like Viva!, Animal Aid and PETA. At least your wife's veggie, and you never know, she might go vegan too (my mum went vegan from veggie about a year after I did). But as others have suggested, it is worth getting into contact with other veggies and vegans in your area; it definitely helps to know there are others who care about animals, and that you're not alone. Welcome to the group! , " Simon Bolton " <sbolton@p...> wrote: > === Questions about you === > > === Other comments === > > 14/ If there is anything else you want to add to the above please feel free > to do so. > It would be really good to hear some encouragement from other vegans as my > wife is vegetarian, but apart from that I know no other vegetarians, but > most impotantly, I do not know a single other Vegan!! > Most of the time I cope really well because I am the sort of person that > once I have made a commitment to something ,I stick to it.
