Hi All,

A friend's mother is visiting from India. She's going to show us how to

prepare some Indian meals, but she won't accept money for the food to prepare

the meal. She doesn't speak English, and I would like her to know how much we

appreciate her sharing her cooking skills with us. Since she won't accept money,

is it okay to buy her a gift? I don't want to offend her. If it's okay, please

offer me some suggestions.

Thank you for your help.

I'm not familiar with the customs to avoid insulting her but one thought I had

was to reverse the favor & show her how to cook a meal typical of where you

live?

Hi!

I am from India and I've been in similar situations in

England when my mother, on a visit, offered to

demonstrate a few recipes to my friends. My friends

solved the problem by either getting her flowers or

some nice chocolates. She really liked those. Your

friend's mother may be offended if the gift is very

expensive.

Hope this helps.
