Guest guest
QUERY: Wotz (to do) with the beanz? Imagine, if you please, that you have a bag of dried beans or freezer containers of already cooked beans or cans of beans (as many of you probably have). 1. Give a choice, what kind of beans would they be? (kidney beans, for eg., black turtle beans, adzuki beans, garbanzo beans, great northern beans, pinto beans, etc. - you choose.) 2. What dish would you suddenly and magically make out of them? Love, Pat (who has to go and cook some beans!)
Guest guest
I always have a lot of dried beans on hand, but we invariably make 4 cups of dried pinto beans (which makes about 10 cups) in the pressure cooker at least twice a week. Some we eat whole in soup or over corn bread, but most we mash into refried beans and the kids eat them after school in burritos or with tortilla chips. We have two teenagers and there is usually at least two more of their friends hanging around so we go through a lot of food and the pinto beans are cheap, nutritious, filling, and they love them. (Unfortunately only one of them is vegan so we go through a lot of cheese, too!) Kristin 8:00? 8:25? 8:40? Find a flick in no time with the Search movie showtime shortcut. Guest guest
Pressure cooker is a great way to go with beans, I understand. I go the opposite direction and put mine in the slow cooker - but the whole idea is to cut down on fuss, right? In response to my own query, lacking any brighter ideas (some days are like that) I did the last of some navy beans - cooked them Italian style, as if they were cannellini beans (don't see those around here for some reason, except in cans). Great. We're having some for lunch today with some veggies of course. I'll see if I have that recipe typed up in case anyone is interested. It's not spicy, but it certainly is good!
