Guest guest
Some years ago we stayed at Gasthaus Switzerland, a Ôbed and breakfast innÕ in Ottawa. For breakfast they had offered, among other things, an enormous punchbowl of Muesli, which we found delicious, if a little high in calories When we were leaving, I asked about it, and the manager happily handed out a printed recipe for ÔThis famous dish . .. . created in Switzerland by Dr Bircher in 1887 at his diet clinic . . . Ô. For some reason I saved this, made a version of it a few times, lost it then fell across it the other day when searching for something else. Although this has clearly been adapted (they had kiwi fruit in Switzerland then? Also I understand the milk used, for safety/hygienic reasons at the time, was sweetened condensed), I thought this might interest some. (And I donÕt think the Gasthaus Switzerland would mind.) --- " BIRCHER MUESLI Recipe for 4-6 people. 2 cups natural yogurt 2 cups rolled oats 1 cup milk 3-4 Tbsp sugar Stir together, then add: 1/2 lemon (squeezed onto fruit) 2 chopped apples 2 bananas 1 orange some grapes, strawberries, or any other fruit such as pears, pineaple, blueberries, raspberry or kiwi Combine everything to your taste. Leave overnight. If you like you can add nuts, raisins or whipping cream! " --- There ya go!!!!! Love, Pat
