You're right, I shouldn't have generalized - since it is a matter of genetics after all. > Some people are 'tasters', some not, some in between, and although it's a given that the > younger we are the more we are attracted to sweet tastes (babies and milk), it doesn't > mean that people can't develop tastes in defiance of statistics. As for your situation, > clearly neither of your kids has a problem with so-called bitter veggies (the cruciferous > ones such as broccoli and cauliflower, for example) - that's genetic There's definitely a lot more variation in kids than we're led to believe. My son, who's 3 and a half, currently loves spinach and broccoli, Brussels sprouts. He'll eat the whole pot full if no one else grabs any. And he'll drink black coffee if I let him. He also can wolf down an ice cream cone in seconds. One of our housemate's boys could care less about sweets, he takes one bite of dessert and leaves the rest. One of her other boys craves the stuff. Me, I'm much more interested in sweet foods than I was as a child. Perhaps we each follow our own path. Ken Walden

Doesn't taste anything tooooooo strongly. Genetic. >One of our housemate's boys could > care less about sweets, he takes one bite of dessert and leaves the > rest. And the opposite true of this person, I'd guess. Dessert tooooo sweet, I'll bet, or just not attracted to sweet. Genetics, eh?! Oh sure, some is learned ('It's an acquired taste' etc.) But yes, there's a wider variance than we're led to believe in kids. And in adults too, I guess. LOL We have to allow for these variances in taste. No big deal. Love, Pat
