Guest guest
Hi Pat, I am one of those members who love to eat regular veggie meals but have not converted as yet. For a simple smoothie I throw into the blender some assorted frozen red fruits and berries and a measure of soya milk. If I have any bananas half a one goes in but is not essential. Whizz the lot together. Delicious and ice cold. Chris. ebay seller ID: culden www.picturetrail.com/midiminis

Guest guest
My favorite juice these days is Kids' fortified orange juice, because that is what we have in the house for my daughter. Guest guest
Hi everyone, Thanks Pat - we had a lovely restful weekend. We visited friends on Sunday and we have been enjoying glorious spring weather every day. I'm Marie, 61, now living in Holland but originally from Australia. We love rather spicy foods and Indian, Mexican and Middle Eastern cuisines are special favourites. I really enjoy cooking dishes with influences from these areas. I have a large collection of cookbooks (way toooooooooooooo large in my husband's opinion LOL) but I rarely cook from a recipe. I use the books to get inspiration then head off to the kitchen with an idea in mind and go form there. As far as drinks are concerned, I have to admit to mostly being a water, soda water and tea person. However I do like tomato juice. On the rare occasions we eat in a restaurant it is usually an Indian restaurant an I invariably order a mango lassi. Cheers to everyone from Marie in Haarlem, Netherlands _____ On Behalf Of Pat Monday, April 09, 2007 6:12 PM ROLL CALL AND QUERY Hi Everyone, Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and that the weather is picking up for all of you in the northern hemisphere. Guest guest
Hello from Minesota...there is still a few inches of snow here today. I like mango and strawberries and ice made into a smoothie/slushie. Sometimes I use a littel extra juice (whatever is on hand) or even use a little bit of ice-tea as extra liquid. Guest guest
hi there! There are many on " My favourite summer-time juices and milkshakes " list. But the favourite of favourites is Mango Milkshake. What I do is get the tinned alphansos and blend them along with the milk(amount of milk & sugar to my taste) in a blender and fill up a huge milkshake glass and enjoy it in the afternoons. What I also do is get the fresh Strawberries and purée them along with some sugar syrup and bottle it for a week or 2. Add a little amount of it in a long glass and pour in some chilled milk on top. And if some more fresh strawberries left in the fridge, then I top-up the glass with freshly cut strawberry slices. Well, that was all about the milkshakes. I love them a lot. Among the juices, I simply like orange juice, sometimes i also add the fresh fruits like banana, kiwi & grapes along with the Tetra packed orange juice & apple juice in a juicer. This makes up a fresh start in the mornings of the sunny weekends. The place where I live at present, doesn't make it possible for me to have a fresh Coconut water, but all my childhood, I enjoyed a fresh coconut water every morning. Guest guest
Hello! I'm Jessica, my husband and I live in Central Vermont and I've been a lurker on the list for about 3 weeks. I work with a local non-profit that provides support for adults with developmental and physical disabilities and mental illness. I've recently decided to become vegan, much to the chagrin of my chicken lovin' hubby. It's going well (so far...HA!) , been lacto-ovo (no eggs, just a little milk, yogurt and cheese here and there, until my supply runs out) for about 2 weeks with the goal of being completely vegan (well, as much as possible) in another 2 weeks. I'm having loads of fun experimenting with veg*n recipes, and have fallen in complete love with the cook books " Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World " and " Vegan With A Vengeance " No real cravings, Thank Goodness! My husband and I love, love, love spicy foods and *cue melodrama* the saddest day of our lives was when we moved away from our 2 beloved restaurants, Thai Paradise (Portsmouth, NH) and A Taste of India (Dover, NH) My favorite smoothie is just a general fruit type - made with just a sploosh of soy (or rice) milk, some frozen blueberries, raspberries and / or strawberries and maybe a banana and a heaping scoop of Hemp protein powder. It's a little grainy with the hemp, but it's SO filling, and one regular glass of that completely tides me over well into the lunch hour. Anyways, that's me I'm loving the list...thanks for being such a great community Jess >ROLL CALL: Time now to check in, please . . . . >QUERY: Do you have a favourite juice, shake or smoothie? Guest guest
I am from Eureka CA and I have been a vegetarian since 1976. I love knitting, gardening, meditation/yoga, and just retired in October 2006 after 40+ years in public social services. I am enjoying knitting and vegetarian cooking. I usually drink juice for medicinal purposes such as grapefruit juice and pear juice [Knudsen Organic, of course]. I prefer to eat fresh fruit than to drink juices. I make my own soymilk and blend it with frozen fruit (any kind), fresh fruit, a very small amount of molasses, some honey, and some spices (depending on the type of fruit - ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, etc.) The most recent combination was frozen peaches and ginger. Guest guest
Hi, I'm Paula from Toronto. I live in a " mixed " household - dh is omni and the kids (almost 4 and almost 2) and I are vegetarian. I'm always on the lookout for new recipes to suit dh and the kids - dh loves spice but it depends on the day for boys (I sometimes spice later!). The kids are funny - one day they love spice and the next they don't. My eldest declared one day that he didn't like Indian food but proceeded to eat a plate full. I must say though that they seem to have very sophisticated tastebuds for their ages. We don't keep juice in house except on rare occasions but I love fresh squeezed OJ. My favourite smoothie is: frozen mixed berries (slightly thawed so we don't get a brain freeze!), ripe banana, soya/rice milk, silken tofu, a hint of sugar, and ground flaxseed. Just blend and go - yummy! It's like a good-for-you " milkshake. " Oh, I just bougth myself Vegan with a Vengence the other day and am super exicited to try the recipes! I like to work in the garden and I " m itching to get back out there when the weather is better. My son is very active in state/county Special Olympics and we are in sports all year long. I don't really have a favorite juice, shake or smoothie. I have to drink a shake because of hormones but it is not that tasty so I don't try to drink any other shakes because of that. Guest guest
Hi, I've also been lurking for the last few weeks. Our family is still in the transition period right now, so I love reading about all the recipes and getting new ideas. I need all the help I can get! I have two children, ages 5 and 3, and our Green smoothie is my favorite way to sneak more veggies into their little bodies! Usually, I blend up whatever fruit I happen to have around the house with a little yogurt and juice, but my favorite combination is pineapple and green apple. Then I toss in a couple of generous handfuls of raw spinach leaves, blend it up some more, and voila! Beautiful, delicious green smoothies. My kids called them leprechaun smoothies on St. Patrick's day - LOL. We also like to freeze the mixture in popsicle molds. Yum! Peace. Guest guest
Born and raised in New Hampshire, so I definitely know of these restaurants! I've ben vegetarian since '95 and vegan for the last year. Always been a hot and spicy food fan, but couldn't really satisfy it until I got out on my own. Now, I tend to hurt my friends even when I'm trying to be careful. LOL. I've learned to leave out the hots entirely when cooking for others and just bring along some hot pepper flakes, etc.. Speaking of cooking, I am currently transitioning to more raw foods. I was following Eat To Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman ( http://snipurl.com/1972s ), so I was probably 50% anyway, but now I'm closer to 80-90% raw and working on it. Although books like The 80/10/10 Diet, and the Natural Hygiene theories in general, shun condiments and spices, etc. as being irritants and poisons, they will remain in my diet! I'm not buying it. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog , " Jessica Celeste " <enigmatic74 wrote: [...] > My husband and I love, love, love spicy foods and *cue melodrama* the > saddest day of our lives was when we moved away from our 2 beloved > restaurants, Thai Paradise (Portsmouth, NH) and A Taste of India (Dover, NH) [...]

Guest guest
My all-time favorite smoothies are more like the consistency of frozen yogurt. Mango Frozen Treat 1 12 oz. pkg. frozen mango chunks 1 1/2 C. unsweetened soymilk Blend until smooth and creamy. Unbelievable! Blackberry Avocado Dream (sounds weird, but just try it) 1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted 2 C. frozen blackberries 2 Tbs. balsamic vinegar 1 orange, peeled with a knife, white pith left on 1/3 C. water (or to your desired consistency) Blend until smooth. Guest guest
Hi Pat & all group members, I moved to NM from FL in January and am still unpacking. We were going to till the soil to get the garden ready, but have had snow for two days. Guess we'll wait. I've been vegan for 2 1/2 yrs. I'll try to keep in touch with this group more often. Smoothie recipe? I like frozen banana, strawberry, blueberry, orange juice or some soy milk. Throw it in a blender with some ice. Pretty simple, but good. I sometimes put chopped nuts in or wheat germ. Whatever I have on hand. Guest guest
Hi All, I have been a member here for a short time. I am Leslie ,53, from the Atlanta metro area. I've been vegetarian, again, (several years as a teen) since September of last year. I am also a type 2 diabetic. Liz, I would love to hear what your nutritionist says( been trying to find one here who is veg friendly, no luck). I am married with 2 grown sons. My husband is veggie at home, eats meat occasionally when out. I own a wholesale bakery and have been cooking professionally for over 20 years. We love spicy food, especially datil peppers which are only grown commercially in St. Augustine, FL.(one of our favorite places) We plant them with great success in Atlanta every year. I am also a polymer clay jewelry artist, but time for that love has been basically nonexistent lately. - I am still here as well-but have been busy like everyone else-no free time on any of my days off this week. Guest guest
Thanks Pat and Leslie for the support-been kind of confused since I was diagnosed, but found lots of good into on a diabetic group. I had my first diabetic management class this week and it was about care in general, with just a little information on nutrition. One thing I did learn is that I should eat at least some carbs and some protein at each meal and each allowed snack to help curb feeling hungry. Right now, I am never hungry because my diabetes medication makes me feel full-and has helped me to lose 30 pounds with mild exercise, but this information will help when i get straightened out a bit. I am so happy that the nutritionist is a vegetarian-was worried that I would get one who was not supportive not understanding. I will let you know what she suggests and hopefully have some good, spicy recipes to pass on! Thanks again.
