Guest guest
OK, here are the final (so far) lot of responses to your great posts in answer to the Roll Call and Query - hope you understand that I am posting like this in order to save you getting a zillion messages in your mailboxes! Thanks to all you nice people for responding! Here we are, each directed to a member by name: JUDY: Apart from the snow, how do you like NM? Do you miss FL? I imagine it's a bit of an adjustment. Thanks for the smoothie recipe! The wheatgerm is a good idea too CAROL: Don't worry about the kids kicking about vegetarianism (not that I think you are) - they will please themselves pretty well at those ages anyway. I figure once they're in school .. . . (sigh). Anyway, you may have better luck with the younger boy, eh? And you can relax in knowing you're doing everything _right_, whatever they decide. Good luck with the National Scrapbooking Day next month! DAN: I love the idea of Mayan food - but know nothing about it, alas. If you think of starting a restaurant, you must love to cook! I vote that you make it a vegetarian restaurant! (Knew I'd say that, eh?) LIZZY: Hi there to a fellow Canuck! I'm in Ontario, as you probably know We have two puppers (beagles) and a cat (or rather the can has us), which is plenty for a condo. Don't worry about being unable to contribute recipes - that's not the only thing this group is about. We're just as interested in finding foods that are already out there that are good - and someone who can recommend brands and particular choices within those brands has a warm welcome here! Otherwise, just say hello now and then - Nice to hear from you! JOYCE: Lovely to hear from you too. Actually, I think you'll find that many of our members are vegetarian for medical/health reasons, so you're truly not alone. Yes, I agree, spicy foods are a good balance to the blander foods. With us, we go through phases of more or less spicy food, not sure why. Don't hesitate to write in - we're not ALL about spice and recipes, you know! Take care. LIZ: Well hello there! You've been with us quite a while, eh? Hey, bad luck with the diabetes, but good that your dietician is a vegetarian. It's soooo important to have understanding and sympathy. You say " I avoid meat, but have to watch the carbs too, as well as salt and fat-not much left after that. " Oh YES THERE IS! There's all the rest of it, hon. There are several diabetics on this group, and let me assure you that many of them eat very well indeed. Actually, it's the _refined_ carbs you have to watch, as your dietician/ nutritionist will tell you, I believe. Let us know what he or she has to say and check back in with us then, okay? Some members here should have excellent ideas! For myself, I'm not diabetic but do have it in the family (my mother, an aunt) so am careful. And because of my dh's bloodpressure we are both (cuz it's easier) on an almost salt-free diet, almost fat- free, and we stay away from refined foods anyway. Not a huge sacrifice, I assure you And oh yes, we're vegan too. Lots of great and exciting food to be had within those confines. Chat later. Huge hugs and love. (And hey - look at leslie, who also wrote in - she is also type 2 diabetic!) LESLIE: Hey, I realize I hadn't read your email when I responded to Liz (above). Nice you were able to write in about that I don't know the peppers you mention . . . . But I'll bet that means you have lots of wonderful ideas what to do with spicy food and the things that go into it! Lovely to meet you. Post often! Hugs and love, Pat (Group Owner)
