Guest guest
I'm thinking about getting some turmeric and oregano capsules for medicinal purposes. Has anybody taken these spices as supplements? Do you know if they taste good enough be opened up and a little sprinkled on food? I'd like to get culinary as well as medicinal use from them. Has anybody found therapeutic benefits from the amounts of these spices used in cooking? (anti-fungal, immune enhancement, etc) Please forgive if this is considered off topic. Please feel free to respond to me by private mail if it's not a topic for the group. Thanks, Su
Guest guest
my personal opinion is that there may be medicinal properties but you'd need to consume a lot. capsules may be better for getting more into you. but please don't spend money on capsules to open up & add to food! Go purchase the stuff & cook with it!! yumyumyum! I have cinnamon capsules in addition to a BIG container of cinnamon that gets consumed within a few months time. Guest guest
A great group to get some answers to questions such as these, where food is medicine and medicine is food, is ayurveda . There are many qualified Vaidyas, or Ayurvedic Medical Pracitioners and M.D. doctors available to give you very precise answers from that tradition of healing. Guest guest
Turmeric powder can be added in cooked vegetables. It can also be applied to wound on body of human being and animals too. It is very good healing agent. It should be used in very very little quantity ( For ex. 1/4th tea spoon). We use it daily. We also use it as face mask of gram glour. Guest guest
Hi Su, I take turmeric, cranberry extract and garlic supplements. I also eat turmeric and garlic as foods, and drink cranberry juice, but you don't usually consume these foods daily. I think it is a good idea to take antioxidant supplements unless you have a really excellent diet with lots of fresh organic fruits and vegetables daily. (anti-fungal, immune enhancement, etc) Hi Su, I would have thought any question about cooking with spices was appropriate in a vegetarian spice list. The Oriental cookery I know often involves turmeric, it's one of the main ingredients of curries and is also used for making yellow rice yellow (unless you can afford saffron in the quantities required), we also use it a lot in stir-fries. And does it taste goed? wow! Lately I sought medical advice (via the Web) for a condition and learnt of the health-giving effects of turmeric especially in combination with cruciferous vegetables - which we'd been doing all the time without knowing how goed it was! (can give references if required but that _would_ be off topic!) Oregano is also delicious, usually in Mediterranean cookery. Give me the raw ingredients any time, never mind the capsules!
