Guest guest
Hello everyone, I have a few minutes to send you all a quick 'hi' from an Internet cafe in Edinburgh. We have seen and done so much already that my post-holiday epistle is likely to get rather long. We still have two weeks of our holiday left to go and I have already taken over 700 photos. Don't panic though, I won't be posting all of them!!!!!! We have done so much walking around Edinburgh that I literally wore my shoes out - have just spent a firtune on buying a new pair but I had to have them. Edinburgh, as some of you may know, is rather hilly and we have walked from one end of it to the other several times. Our first night was spent in northern England at Burton on Trent and from there we went to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) off the coast of Northumberland. Day 2 we drove south to Alnwick castle which has beautiful gardens. After seeing the castle and gardens we drove north to Edinburgh following a beautiful scenic route that our friend Chris had selected. It is so fantastic to see an area through the eyes of someone who knows it well. In Edinburgh we have visited the Camera Obscura (a great experience), Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, explored the many fascinating shops and alleyways along the Royal Mile, had a guided tour of the new Scottish parliment building and, of course, seen the new Harry Potter movie - I'm sure no one is surprised that we went there!!!! We also had a brilliant day visiting Glamis Castle (childhood home of the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother) followed by a delightful walk in the castle gardens then a spectacular drive through breathaking scenery in the rugged Scottish highlands. The mountains and the lochs are incredibly beautiful and, at the same time, rugged and desolate. That's about all I have time for at the moment but I promise (or threaten LOL) you all that there will be MUUUUUUUUCH more to folow. Hugs form Marie
