I confess I've only ever sprouted mung beans. Quinoa, huh? Sounds

like a great idea - quinoa is so nutritious. Which reminds me: I know

I have some and I'm going to have it (instead of brown rice) for lunch!

Cooked, not raw LOL But good luck with your raw adventures!

Okay! I seem to remember a great salad dressing that a former member

posted here years ago. I'll look for it and re-post :)

I just bouhgt a box of Quinoa to cook and although I am a little wierded out

about how it looks, I will try anything once! I will write again and let you

all know how it turns out for me. It has almost been one whole year since the

last time I have had meat and I feel better than ever. When I first started the

group about 6 months ago I guess I explained that I was veggie (I do eat dairy &

eggs) before I had my daughter and decided to go backto that lifestyle although

my husband and daughter do eat meat. It was the best decision that I have ever

made (besides having my wonderful daughter!). I just wanted everyone to know

that the recipies that are posted give me some great ideas and they also

encourage me to try to step away from dairy and eggs. Just wanted to share that

with everyone.

Regards-

Tiffany

How was the quinoa? And why, if I may ask, did it weird you out??? Was it the

tiny size of

the grains? Or was it red quinoa that you bought and the colour gave you a

shock? LOL If

the red, then especially let me know, cuz i've never tried the red! I love

quinoa - so nutty

- and so light! What I like too is that it cooks in the same time as it would

take for white

rice to steam up - just 20 minutes - whereas so many other grains (eg. brown

rice) take

more than double that time. It's also incredibly nutritious, but that's a bonus

for me, not

the reason for using it. We often substitute it for rice or couscous at a meal -

not with an

Indian meal or a Chinese/Thai/Indonesia or whatever meal, but for one of those

western

type dishes where they sometimes say 'serve over rice or noodles'.

Good to have you posting!

I want to add that if it was the tiny seed-like look of the grain that

was weird, Tiffany, once you get over that you ought to try another of

my favorites: Millet. My husband likes to tease me because I have a

bird name and like to eat millet but I just laugh when he does because

he doesn't know how much he is missing out by not trying my tasty

millet! LOL

Authentic ethnic recipes that use millet come mostly from China and

from Africa, but there are all kinds of neat, non-traditional things

you can do with it, too.

I'm so pleased you've found something else that you can really enjoy. I must try

the red

quinoa - I saw some at our local homeopathic shop - and I googled and found

this:

http://www.shopnatural.com/html/22305.htm

It is a commercial site - but it does tell us what it's about and of course l

can get the

organic stuff from whoever I like :)

I'll report back after I've tried it!

Hi,

I think I saw some in Sobey's or Loblaws grocery stores. I'll confirm it on my

next grocery shopping trip and let the list know.

I love quinoa!
