Guest guest
I really want to become a vegetarian. However, my parents feel I won't be able to get enough protein in my diet. They're very stubborn! I can't convince them. Can you help? Also...they think it'll be awkward if I'm not eating meat while the rest of the family (at the table) is... Guest guest
Hi Jessica You could easily do a search on google, such as; protein found in foods and grains for vegetarians. Many sites come up that you can gather information from, to review with your parents. While going the vegetarian route it would be a good idea for you to learn about tofu (there are many ways to prepare it) too and the different variety of vegetarian foods on the market. If you do you research and show them proof, backed with an interest on learning recipes and being open about different vegetarian foods, I hope they will see you are serious about wanting to make this your lifestyle. Good Luck!!! Jessica <gophert wrote: I really want to become a vegetarian. However, my parents feel I won't be able to get enough protein in my diet. They're very stubborn! I can't convince them. Guest guest
I sometimes wonder whether humans can survive without meat-- then I remember that I'm 43 and have been a vegetarian since age 16.

LOL There are so many people like yourself who have been vegetarian for years - some since birth - and who are well and fit and happy on such a diet. I 'went veggie' when I was a bit younger than you are now, although there were some periods of omnivorism when I was ill or similarly unable to manage my own meals. More than 25 years down the track, I am what they used to call a strict vegetarian - eating no flesh or animal products, no eggs, no dairy - and my health now is better than it has ever been. There's lots of medical evidence out now to back up the idea of a vegetarian diet - none of us needs to take any flak from anyone for such a good decision, eh? Thanks for writing in. It's good to have feedback on this kind of issue from longtime veggies! And good luck to everyone here who is just starting out on this path - it's a good one to be on!!!
