Hi!

I'm Amy, I'm from the UK (inbetween Crewe and Newcastle-under-Lyme).

I've been a veggie since my early teens (now I'm 24), and am on the way

to being vegan. I'm very concerned over GM foods, so try eat organic,

and am a beginner at growing my own fruit and veg. I also avoid

processed foods- including tofu, tvp, quorn etc, and cook as much as

possible from absolute scratch.

Hi Amy, and welcome to our group ;) I'm originally from the UK too but now

in Canada (again) after living here there and somewhere. We do get around,

don't we?

So nice that you're doing that. It took me eons to give up eggs and dairy

-

not so much because I 'craved' them but because dairy especially is in so

many 'normal' recipes and it's hard when out to find something without. OR

so I used to think!!! LOL Anyway, although this is a lacto-ovo group there

are

quite a few vegans here and I'm sure they'll be happy to give tips and

advice

etc. if you tell us what you need to know.

Well, you'll be quite an accomplished cook then! Good for you. Sometimes

I think I'd like to grow my own fruit and veg, but our chosen lifestyle

includes

a lot of travel and living in an apartment - no windowboxes for apple

trees

here!

Enjoy the group and write in often, okay? We have lots of good tried and

true

recipes (all have been tried by the person posting and some of us too) for

you

to look at - and if there's anything you can't find, please let us know

and we'll

try to help, okay?

Best, Pat (Group Owner)

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the welcome! (It is a small world :-)! Where abouts in the UK were

you?)

I know exactly what you mean about 'normal' recipes using milk and eggs. My

favourite dish

is pancakes with sugar and lemon- as I'm avoiding non organic and processed

foods and

they need to be vegan, well I'm not left with a lot of options for making these!

(I tried last

night using flour and water and needless to say it was a disaster, but it'll

keep me busy till

I've found a way).

It would be the travelling that would make growing your own difficult, more than

an

apartment I suppose. I say this as my windowsills were full of herbs this year,

and after

reading a few library books about windowsill fruit, veg and herbs I'll be trying

to grow a few

extra things next year too. (If you ever want some plants that can survive being

left alone for

periods of time, I'd highly reccommend sempervians.)

:-D

I was actually born in Staffordshire, during WWII at my grandmother's

house. I still have family there and close by - some in Yorkshire, others

in Lancashire, Lincolnshire, blah blah blah.

I think there might be members here who can help you out. There are indeed

vegan versions

of the kind of pancake/crepe you mean. I love those thin pancakes too -

especially with lemon and sugar!

Okay, but I don't know what they are ;) That's my problem - complete

ignorance of growing things. But oh I do so love to munch them!!!

Best love, Pat
