Guest guest
Hi Dee, My top ingredients would be pretty much the same as yours - Garlic/onions (very little I don't put garlic or onions or both into) Olive Oil Tinned tomatoes Tinned beans (a pantry staple) Rice/pasta Cheers Helen Edite Vidins <E.Vidins < > Saturday, 26 June 1999 15:50 Newbie Intro " Edite Vidins " <E.Vidins Hello to all, My name is Dee and I am new to the list. I am not strictly vegan, but I would very much like to be, it is difficult enough keeping vegetarian in a household that has three generations in it, and I must say it is sometimes hard to keep ones resolve when you have worked all day, it's late, and we're JUST HUNGRY. I feel though, the more exposure I have to vegan recipes and advise, the easier it will be. I would like to hear from anyone who would like to share their 5 top must have ingredients from which a variety of staples can be made. Mine would have to be the following: Garlic different types of oils rosemary (fresh) tinned tomatoes lemons Thanks, from Dee Brisbane cloudy, cool - 19º --------------------------- ONElist Sponsor ---------------------------- Attention ONElist list owners. Guest guest
Welcome. I'm fairly new to the list and, although I am not a stranger to vegetarianism, I am new to veganism. Here are my 5 must haves: lentils (for lentil burgers and for hearty soup in cooler weather) tofu (for quick stir-fries and tofu burgers) salad and braising greens (like beet greens, swiss chard, spinach) oils (canola for frying and extra virgin olive for salads) flour (I make my own bread, pasta, and chapati) Trust me. I don't care who you have living with you. Those lentil burgers will be a hit with everyone. Good luck. Rose

Guest guest
welcome Tiffany and congratulations on the baby! Tiffany Bellah <tiffanybellah wrote: Hi gang! I am Tiffany and I am just beginning my journey into raw foods. I am 15 weeks pregnant and was very sick during the first three months- all I wanted was fruit and veggies at that time- it was all I could handle! So I stumbled upon the " raw food revolution " while trying to find new ways to enjoy the foods my body naturally craved. I lost 15 pounds, (which I guess many women do in their first trimester from the constant nausea) and would like to gain only 20 during my pregnancy, then lose 50-60 after, while also attempting to " cure " my IBS, hypothyroidism, and depression- maladies I have dealt with all my adult life. Now that I am past the three month mark, I haven't been so sick and I've been eating SAD again and I noticed that other symptoms (irritability, insomnia, poor digestion, etc.) are coming back (I barely noticed they were gone because I was so sick and tired from the pregnancy). I plan on transitioning very slowly (over the next 2 years actually since I'll be nursing)- I just don't want to do anything drastic that might affect the health of the baby. Although I really wish I'd made the switch before pregnancy... Oh well, any ideas, advice and opinions are welcome. My plan is to focus on adding one new " good thing " a month (wheat grass, " green smoothies " , soaked nuts and grains, etc) and subtracting a " bad white thing " (sugar, flour, dairy, etc) the following month. Plus I really want to learn to be creative in recipes so that by the time I am 100% I won't be at a loss for " what to make for dinner " . I have a 5 1/2 year old and a junk food junkie hubby (who happens to have a metabolism of steel so he isn't affected visibly by it at all- I wish I could show him what his insides probably look like and convince him that his respiratory allergies are related to how he eats, but all in good time) so I am really trying to balance what to make them and more importantly how to resist the chips, candy and processed foods he loves and brings into our home (plus attract my daughter to the more healthy way of eating that I am embracing). Sorry for the very long intro and thank you in advance for taking time to read my post and offer your wisdom! Happy Saturday! Guest guest
My nme is Robin - Tapa, FL, USA/widow, no kids, 1 turtle/been interested (and tried) vegetarianism off and on for the past 5 years.....but I keep going back to meat. My cousin has a 12 year old daughter who did veggie cold turkey (not a pun - honest!) at a dinner at Red Lobster.....she just decided she couldn't eat things that once had a face. I am so proud of her!!! AND - I want to be like her...........I, however, also know about what is put into meat, what the animals eat, the hormones, antibiotics, the factory farms, etc.... My birthday is on the 27th of this month and I really want this to be the start of a new healthy way of life........... Be a better pen pal. Text or chat with friends inside Mail. See how. Guest guest
Whilst reading your post it took me back to when I became veggie almost a year ago (my second time around the veggie tree if you will). I decided to become veggie because meat and I never got along more times than not I would get violently ill after consuming meat of any sort. The thing that I tell myself is living a veggie lifestyle is a life without stomach aches! No lie I rarely get them as well as colds. Living off of the land doesn't mean eat the animals. If you think of them as living beings that hurt and cry you may change your mind about wanting to eat them. Best of luck to you in your search to becoming whole!
