Guest guest
Hello all! My name is Tierney and I live with 2 furry little friends, Cheyenne, My golden retriever/mix and Tiki my tuxedo mixed kitty. I love them to death! I have bounced around vegetarianism for a few years now, but i always go back to eating meat. I dont know why. I love any animal and cant stand to see them suffer at all. I guess thats why, cause I dont see the suffering. I guess its easy to put a blind eye to things that arent right in front of us. I really am going to need some help with this. I want to start out slowly. I have been compiling info to be prepared for the first of the year which I want to revamp my life for the better. I want to quit eating the meat, and soon there after the animal products. I think that being vegan would be very stressful, not so much in the foods, but the clothing and such. But that could be an option later down the road. I love to cook and bake so this should be fairly easy, and I love all ethnic food groups. I would like however suggestions on soy milks that taste the most like regular milk, and something that could be used in place of eggs as in scrambled eggs. I heard tofu, but would it taste pretty good, or would you have to add a secret spice of some kind. Any help would be appreciated. Im looking forward to my new journey, and with all your help it will be a success! Have a great night, Tierney
Guest guest
Welcome, Tierney! It's nice to have you here and yes, this is a good place to get the kinds of recipes you'll need in your new meat-free existence! It's better for you to be veggie as well as better for the animals, so you get two rewards in one As for the tofu, we have lots of nice recipes here. There's not really a substitute for scrambled egg that tastes like egg, but you can do wonderful things with various recipes for a tofu scramble and there are people here who are very clever indeed with substitutes. The only time that I use tofu where I would previously have used egg (except sometimes in baking) is in a fake egg salad sandwich. That can taste pretty authentic! By the way, it's not as difficult as you think to make the transition from omni to veg and then on to vegan, but perhaps it's all a matter of degree. Some do it overnight, some take a few years (I did myself). But every little bit helps. Best of luck and let us know how you're doing! Guest guest
Thank you for introducing yourself Pat, Im looking forward to this and your suggestions have helped. Im gradually going into this by incorporating things that help me and the animals day by day. Instead of paying the usual price for my holiday cards at the store, I decided to buy them online at local charities. I purchased a calendar and some xmas cards from the Michigan humane society. Some cards from a farm sanctuary. And Im going tomorrow to look into some soy yogurts, and have fun looking into the health isle for the organic, vegan delights. Im embarking on this journey whole heartitly and I know this is the best choice for me. Thank you sooo much for you advice on the scrambled eggs. I will try the egg salad with some nayonaise. I have been searching the last couple hours for vegan sites, vegan recipes and bookmarked tons of stuff. Im ready!! So thanks again and Im looking forward to talking to you and everyone on here. Oh and by the way, As my little companion daughter puppy leans back leading her life of luxury, I believe I seen a paw go up in a wave to your babies!
