Guest guest
I made a vegetable juice this morning: carrots celery cucumber onion tomatoes The juice was excellent.. (didn't even need salt) then I used the pulp to make a " Black Eyed Pea " soup... a bag of Black Eyed Peas... the juicer pulp, water, vegetarian boullion (I use Maga) with all the pulp from the juicer. It was the best batch of Black Eyed Pea soup I ever tasted... if I do say so myself! This juicer is simply wonderful. Also, I've lost 3 lbs last week since I started juicing... Guest guest
Your juice sounds good. I'm going to have to try it. How much onion did you use? Yesterday, I made a smoothie for breakfast. I used spinach, banana, water and a tablespoon of canned pumpkin (left over from making the pie). It was really good. Making soup out of the pulp is a good idea. I'm always looking for ideas on how to use my leftover pulp. One time I mixed carrot pulp with apple sauce but that's as adventurous as I've gotten. Does it freeze well? Please share any ideas you have for pulp. Tia tialia03 ie , " Kim C. Guest guest
Yes indeed, the juice does sound good - and so does your smoothie Next time you make this kind of thing, guys, jot down the amounts and ingredients so someone else can try it the way YOU like it, okay? These things would be so useful for newcomers to vegetarianism - and for some of us oldies too, by golly!!! As for the soup - again, jot down a rough idea (at least) of the proportions of ingredients you use to give us some ideas, okay?- No rush, though - whenever you think of it and only if you have time It's just that I think some people who don't really use recipes can still give us some good ideas and someone else could develop a formal recipe from it - or not. Oh who am I kidding! It's me who wants to know LOL Even though I don't have a juicer! Love and hugs, Pat , " tialia03 " <tialia03 wrote: > > Your juice sounds good. I'm going to have to try it. Guest guest
I divide my juice pulp between my two dogs. Sometimes they eat it all, sometimes not. I find mixing it with a dollop of the cat's canned food does the trick for the remaining pulp! I have also done some checking to be sure the veggies are not harmful to them. I can't find anything negative about fruits and vegs, except for too much onion or garlic. I did find that avocados are not supposed to be good for them, but I question that. Seems it would be a good source of essential fatty acids. Of course, no raisins or grapes. Guest guest
I think it's because of the fat contest -same with salmon. I wish we had a dog. Awww. What kind of dogs do you have? I goodled " avocado dog " and found I was wrong. Here's the link: I think I'll keep the link for when we get another dog. http://www.bdnhumanesociety.com/householddangers.htm Avocado The avocado is very dangerous to all animals – the fruit, leaves, stem, and pit are all considered toxic parts of the plant. The toxic substance in the Avocado is called persin, which is a fatty acid derivative. Although poisonous to both cats and dogs, this plant is particularly deadly to birds. This is also a proven poison to various other types of animals including: goats, sheep, horses, cattle, rabbits and even fish! Ingestion of the avocado plant can lead to cardiovascular problems, and often results in death. This plant is highly toxic, and in animals symptoms can range vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory distress, generalized congestion, fluid accumulation around the heart, and heart failure. The avocado is deadly and should not be fed to any pet under any circumstances. , Momcat <Momcat55 wrote: > > I divide my juice pulp between my two dogs. > > Sometimes they eat it all, sometimes not. Guest guest
I definitely will make a note of the proportions next time. This time I basically winged it! I got another smoothie recipe yesterday at the grocery store. 1 Kiwi; 2 carrots; Bean sprouts (handful) and strawberries - about half a small basket. Very nutritious. haven't tried it yet. Also, in my juices I add Ginger Root (one inch at the most - very spicy as you probably already know!). Ginger aids digestion & help calm nausea. As for the pulp, I just put all the pulp in the soup. 1 bag (small) of black-eyed peas & 4 to 5 veggie bouillon. Then I season as I like (bay leaf, basil, oregano). I never have tried freezing the pulp yet. but I do freeze soup stock, so I would think you could. but, I'll look into it on-line & see if I can find something about freezing pulp that hasn't been cooked! Guest guest
Wow.....great info!!! Thanks! I sure didn't find out any dangers like that about avocados. Glad you alerted me, as I try to give my dogs EFA for their skin and coats. I go back and forth between some doggie EFA tablets and grinding up some flax seeds to add to their food. I've also added a bit of avocado when it was reasonably priced. That will stop immediately! My girls are 1) Annie, part Pointer (when we first rescued her, I'd see her out in the yard " pointing " and tried to tell her that was from her " previous life " !!) and 2) Ruby is our Border(line) Collie. Thanks again for the follow-up info! On 12/27/07, R. S. <raw_springfield wrote: > > I think it's because of the fat contest -same with salmon. I wish we > had a dog. Awww.
