Guest guest
Thanks so much for that warning. It's easy to forget that some of the things that are so good for humans are dangerous to our companion animals (and others). We have to be careful because we have beagles and they are notoriously quick to grab anything that smells like food and comes within snatching distance! And of course they wait hopefully beside the chopping board when we are preparing our meals. They love just about any kind of vegetable and fruit, which could be - as you say - a very serious problem. Love and hugs, Pat > I goodled " avocado > dog " and found I was wrong. Rats ADORE avocado and it's very, very healthy for them. There are many citations of laboratory tests with rats and avocados that show how good it is for their fat composition, livers, life span, etc. My ratties go nuts when I give them avocado and I've been known to pick it up at the store thinking first of them and getting the left-overs myself (as opposed to other foods where they are the ones with left-overs.) Rats and avocados are so linked that people speak of the avocado-rat. People keep cats in avocado orchards because it is pretty much guaranteed that were there are avocados growing, there will be rats. > Thanks so much for that warning. (Some people will not feed rats chocolate, but research has shown that it will make male rats infertile but that is the only damage it does. If you're not planning to breed your rats, a few chocolate treats are okay.) Citrus fruits do damage to a rat's urinary system, especially male rats. Letting pet rats eat citrus will lead to an expensive vet visit, often to death of the sweet little friend. Sparrow, who loves all critters, but especially tiny, furry ones that lick her hands and come when they're called - ratties.
