Guest guest
Hi Pat, Sorry about that! I use one cup of BBQ Sauce, whatever brand I happen to have on hand. I've never actually tried the Kentucky Blues BBQ brand. If you don't have BBQ sauce on hand, you could mix ketchup with vegetarian wocestershire sauce, and black pepper and maybe a little red hot pepper sauce. Do they have any kind of BBQ sauce where you live? Maybe that's strictly an American thing. I don't know. I have more tempeh recipes if you would like them. Actually, one of my tempeh recipes was written up in Vegetarian Times Magazine a long time ago. Guest guest
Here's a great recipe for tempeh: --BBQ TEMPEH-- 2 cups onion, cut in half moons 2 cups green pepper, destemmed, deseeded, cut into quarters lengthwise, and sliced horizontally 2 cups red pepper, destemmed, deseeded, cut into quarters lengthwise, and sliced horizontally 3 - 8 oz. pkgs. multigrain tempeh, cut into 1-inch cubes 2 T. olive oil 2 T. tamari 1 recipe Kentucky Blues BBQ Sauce Lightly oil (or spray with oil) a large baking dish (9x13-inch or larger). Place the sliced onions and peppers in the prepared pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes to slightly roast the vegetables. Remove the pan from the oven, transfer the vegetables to a plate, and set aside. Place the tempeh in the same baking pan. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil and tamari. Pour the tamari mixture over the tempeh. Bake the tempeh at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven, stir the tempeh, and return the pan to the oven. Bake the tempeh an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the tempeh is lightly browned and the liquid is absorbed. Remove the pan from the oven. Add the reserved vegetables along with Kentucky Blues BBQ Sauce, and toss gently to combine. Return the pan to the oven, bake an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly. Serve as a main dish or side dish, as a sauce for grains or pasta, or as a sandwich filling. Serves 6-
Guest guest
This looks really good, Catherine! But tell me what is this Kentucky Blues BBQ Sauce? It sounds like a brand name, but you say '1 recipe' so I think it is something you make yourself, unless it's in a package? Let us know, please, there's a dear! Also, if you could give an idea of how much '1 recipe' of it is/makes (in Tbsp or cups or whatever) it would help those who don't have access to this particular brand. Okay? Sorry to be a pest, but not all members live in the USA, myself included, and many outside the USA are not as familiar with products like these as American members are. Thanks very very much for the recipe - I love to find new ways to use tempeh. It not only tastes wonderful but it is also a healthful food! Love and hugs, Pat (who is also the one who puts these recipes in our Files) > Here's a great recipe for tempeh: > > > --BBQ TEMPEH-- > > 2 cups onion, cut in half moons > 2 cups green pepper, destemmed, deseeded, cut into quarters > lengthwise, and sliced horizontally > 2 cups red pepper, destemmed, deseeded, cut into quarters lengthwise, > and sliced horizontally > 3 - 8 oz. pkgs. multigrain tempeh, cut into 1-inch cubes > 2 T. olive oil > 2 T. tamari > 1 recipe Kentucky Blues BBQ Sauce > > > Lightly oil (or spray with oil) a large baking dish (9x13-inch or > larger). Guest guest
> Sorry about that! I use one cup of BBQ Sauce Okay, that's great. I'll edit your recipe to read 1 cup >If you > don't have BBQ sauce on hand, you could mix > ketchup with vegetarian wocestershire > sauce, and black pepper and maybe a little red > hot pepper sauce. Between asking you that question and finding your reply I actually did a little search - googled - and found the recipe you have used. Then I googled for Kentucky Blues BBQ Sauce and found a recipe for it - truly! It's here: http://www.veganchef.com/kentucky.htm It makes two cups, but I dunno what it'd be like As for more tempeh recipes, that would be wonderful if you could let us have any you have tried yourself! Yes, people do barbecue here (*siggghhhhh*) too - and therefore BBQ sauce exists on the shelves of the supermarkets. I've just never had occasion to use it myself. I was thinking more of members in other parts of the world - but perhaps the BBQ craze is in most places and only those who have been vegetarian for a long time might not have used the sauce - although obviously it can be used on other things other than me*t, as you indicate > Actually, one of my > tempeh recipes was written up in Vegetarian > Times Magazine a long time ago. Wow. That's lovely. I am impressed! Wanna share? Love and hugs and thanks for all this, Pat ---- Dr Patricia M. Quick, easy, delicious. Tastes great with rice.
