Guest guest
Welcome, Rachelle! That's a real bummer about your liver disease - so sorry this had to happen to you. As for the treatment, I can think of nicer ways to spend my time - like walking on hot coals. >Since I can't exercise, I have to diet. > Dieting sucks. Not necessarily, you know. Some weightloss diets are pretty okay - although it helps if you're already vegan, for example. Dr Fuhrman's and Dr McDougall's programmes are both fine - you are never hungry on either - and Dr Esselstyne's (from memory) follows closely, as do several others (eg Ornish - one of the early ones). Even if the one you choose doesn't require you to be completely vegetarian, it doesn't hurt the diet to BE vegetarian (and makes some choices simpler). Of course, this isn't a weightloss group, although quite a few members would like to lose a little weight. We can recommend some slimming groups to you - as long as you promise to stay here as well, that is LOL Vegetarian Slimming is one on which I'm a co-owner vegetarianslimming and several members belong to both. > But from my > research I've seen that meat has more for my > body to process than > vegetables and other non animal foods. Yes, I understand that too fwiw. > It also > limits my intake of fat > and extra protein on a daily basis, right? Sounds good. > I want to eat > healthier and lose weight AND exercise. But I > can't have it all. So I > am hoping that the switch to vegetarian helps > me. > Is that selfish? Unless it's selfish to take good care of the body you have, I'd risk a big NO here Good for you! Now, when you come to look at our recipes, please be careful of the oils and fats in them. Many recipes can be adapted to low-fat or no added fat. Some are already clearly made without fat or with very little indeed. (Btw, a great award-winning blog is FatFree Vegan Kitchen at http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/ which is run by the wonderful Susan V. (Not necessarily slimming recipes, you understand, but definitely vegan, and she gives some wonderful ideas of how to cut fats and oils out of your vegan recipes/cooking.) Meanwhile, do have a look at our Files and if you want to know if any of them can be made lower in fat, then just ask. There are several of us who already eat the way you are planning to! So you're not alone with all this, right? Thanks for writing in - and we'll help you get started if you just give us an idea of what it is you need to know.
