Guest guest
I have been veg for 30+ years. Pretty much since reading Lappe Moore's books. I concur with previous posts about how hrd it is to be veg in the US. I came here many years ago and could not believe the amount of dead rotting flesh that was being consumed. Interestingly, on a recent trip back to England [my birth place], I found that even the most red- necked bar or restaurant has a veg item on the menu. Maybe they get regarding sex and diet and we are still in the viagra = steak mode.

Coincidentally, I was just reading a news article that seems to indicate a British trend toward vegetarianism. The number of cattle have been significantly reduced due to fears of Mad Cow and as a result of the demand shift Cod Fish is now 30 GBP per kilo (for us Americans who might not be familiar with those measures, that's about $27 USD per pound. Most people in the rest of the world are pretty clever with conversions and probably get it.) In short, animal flesh in Britain is quickly becoming too expensive. I'm sure some people are pretty upset about that, but in the long run it will be healthier for the nation. And the rest of the world better pay attention, because I predict that this trend will be world-wide before long. Sparrow
Guest guest
Congrats on being such a longterm veggie And that's a good book which influenced you - it did me too, but a tiny bit later. (Now I'm vegan - more influence from more books!) Hope you like it here. We have some interesting recipes that might interest you - and you can always sing out if there's anything you're looking for in particular. My origins are also in the UK and I always find that when I go 'home' (what an quaint term after all this time, but you know what I mean!) I am surprised and delighted by all the veggie offerings in cafes, bars, restaurants. I'm in Canada now, and that's not quite as easy. Write in often - and welcome to the group!!!
