The only place I have seen it pre-mixed so far is in the bulk spice bins at my local WinCo grocery. I can't speak for the quality of it, though, as I've never cooked with garam masala (yet!) so I haven't bought any. You might also try any sort of restaurant supplier shop in your area or any gourmet shops. I did a web search and found this: " Many commercial mixtures may include more of other less expensive spices and may contain dried red chili peppers, dried garlic, ginger powder, sesame, mustard seeds, turmeric, coriander, bay leaves, and fennel. While commercial garam masala preparations can be bought ready ground, it does not keep well, and soon loses its aroma. Whole spices, which keep fresh much longer, can be ground when needed using a mortar and pestle or electric coffee grinder. " (from wikipedia entry for garam masala) And found these mail-order sources for pre-mixed garam masala (these may not be the cheapest sources, they are just the first ones I found) http://tinyurl.com/2fgccq http://tinyurl.com/2b2fwl http://www.spiceaisle.com/blends.html Hope some of this helps! Sorry I don't have more personal experience with garam masala, but I can almost guarantee you that someone else here does! Sparrow

Guest guest
true there are many masalas, like kadai, rasam, including delicious chai masala & biriani mixes often using the similar ingredients. for a really good taste to your dishes try to find fresh curry leaves at your specialty grocer. You can grind the spices as you need them for the freshest taste , try your hand @ experimenting & mixing your own masalas or if you make a lot of curries buy a pre- filled airtight sturdy masala dabba for safely storing your precious [sometimes very expensive] spices. It's worth the investment. **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
You're right - garam masala is a spice mix used in Indian etc. cookery - and the proportions of the various spices differ from kitchen to kitchen, as you'd expect. You can mix your own, as you have found, and store it in a tightly closed glass jar in the cupboard. OR you can buy it at asian grocery stores and the like if not in your other stores. I've taken to buying it from a little spice and grain merchant in the market here, rather than mixing my own, for some reason. It tastes fine to me - unlike most curry powders, for example, which I find obnoxious. If no luck buying it where you are, you should be able to get it on the internet - at varying prices, no doubt. Guest guest
Dear friends, Garam masala is one the spice which can be used in almost every recopies of Indian cooking. I normally use home made. Garam Masala as pat its a mix spice. There are lots spice needed during fixing Indian food, Instead of using each one we use Garam Masala, which gives flavor of spices as well as great taste. You can buy from any Indian Grocery store. Guest guest
This one appears to have disappeared into hyperspace. Resending... - Erin Saturday, January 19, 2008 7:03 AM Re: garam marsala I get a lot of my spices on-line through Spices Etc.. They have a garam masala consisting of coriander, black pepper, cardamom, cloves, mustard seed, fenugreek, cumin, and red pepper. After speaking with the owners, they agreed to allow me to offer a 10% coupon for my newsletter and blog readers. If you're interested, the code can be found in the sidebar of my blog. (I'm not giving it here since it can change at their discretion.) Hope this helps, -Erin http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog
