For those who try > to have an alkaline diet, > I have been told that I should soak my beans > and use the drained water > to water plants Oh is it good for plants? Never thought about that. I have houseplants only (because we live in a highrise condo) and hanging plants only (because of my adventurous cat). Does that mean if I over-water them I'll be singing 'kidneys are falling on my head'? > because using new cooking water > makes the cooked beans > more alkaline. The theory is that a an acid > diet leaches calcium out > of the body. Now I've run across this before. I'll google on this and see what else I can find Heaven knows no one, least of all a woman of my age, needs to have calcium snitched from her bones. Btw, had a bit of a kerfuffle (very very mild, since she's a gentle woman) with my doc a few weeks back. She is sympathetic to a veggie diet since she's lacto-vegetarian herself. But, considering my years (don't bother to look it up on my profile - I'm 67) and 'you're so thin' (well, slim yes - thanks to encouragement from a certain other of my groups LOL) she was concerned for my bones. Haven't got the results of the bone density scan back yet but she advised me to drink milk. Milk?????? I pointed out that beans and dark green veggies had calcium in 'em, but I met a wall of (courteous) silence. Then I 'reminded' her that soymilk had added calcium, but she still looked skeptical. 'How much do you drink?' I said 'about a cup a day.' 'Well then,' she said, 'drink TWO cups.' I didn't question this reasoning, grateful to be let off the hook so easily! LOL Since then I've been wracking my brains to think of ways to get my calcium intake up (just in case). Always something, isn't there! Still you never know - I might still have real bones in this bod yet - no real reason to assume not!
