mmmmmmm.... yeah- Green and Black's Maya Gold is lovely :) My

favorite choclate. :))

Fry's choclate creams (made by cadburys) are vegan and I heard

bornville (sorry i cant spell) is vegan too, but not sure about that.

Best vegan choclates I've ever had were these little expensive ones

that I've only seen once, think they were called 'booja booja' or

something.. were soft, rolled in coco powder and had little rice

crspies in. they were lovely- but kinda expensive, so I wouldn't buy

them again- except for a treat or a present perhaps.

I'm usually not that into choclate but sometimes get urges.. I think

thats a woman thing..

Oh yeah.. I haven't posted here before either so... brief intro: I'm

Laura, 19 years old, been vegan for 3 or 4 years- can't remember just

now, am from Yorkshire, England but have been in Sunderland for a few

years at residential school/college..

Try Brost and Terra Nostra brands. They're both available at Trader

Joe's. The Terra Nostra is my favorite. It's organic and comes in a

couple of varieties. I tried one with raisins and pecans and it was

reeaaally good!

By any odd chance does the package mention being processed in a facility

that processes nuts? We have dairy and nut allergies to deal with.

Nope - just the ingredients. This bag of Non-Pareils is made by Trader

Joes - they're awesome (and even better now that we know they're

vegan!!!). Go get some!!!

I am very curious to find out about the confectioner's glaze. I may be

mistaken, but I thought I had read somewhere that it was not vegan. If

someone could verify one way or another, I would be greatly appreciative.

There are many products that I have not been purchasing because of this

ingredient. Thank you!!

Saw that and said to myself that I'd be

re-addicted to choc again if I tried anything so

delish (wouldn't mind, but the stuff gives me

migraine). Otoh, in honour of the day we bought a

bar of Terra Nostra organic fair trade vegan choc

and had a couple of pieces each - and I had no

headache. It was good to have chocolate again.

Now, back to the raw stuff: other cyberpals have

suggested that I try raw chocolate (can't

remember where from) because supposedly it

doesn't/shouldn't trigger migraine. Hmmmm. Would

that mean I could eat more More MORE????

Btw, granted that the Cholcolate Lady's choc is

raw, how about her other ingredients? (It

wouldn't fret me too much, but it's nice to know

the answers for purists.) No biggie, just

wonderin' :) It's lovely to see confections like

this being produced in ways that make them

healthier and, one would hope, even more

delicious. Are her sources also Fair Trade? (Did

I miss that?)

Of course, the world could get on without

chocolate (I know I have for years), but perhaps

not as well :)

Pat,

From my phone conversation with her, I definitely

came away with the impression that all the ingredients

were raw and that she follows a 100% raw food diet.

I had asked about FairTrade, but it didn't sound like

she knew for sure, except that she trusted her sources.

Indeed, I actually think I had made her aware of an

issue with commercial chocolate (namely, the poor

treatment of workers and child labor in the industry).

She sounded keen to learn more now that she knew.

I've forwarded along your questions, in case she has

more to add.

Oooh, I almost forgot. She also mentioned she's planning

a trip to Belize to see where her chocolate is sourced(!)

and to arrange a more direct distribution to cut out the

middle man. Pretty cool. That would be a fascinating trip.

It's completely possible to have an allergy to chocolate. My Dad did. I seem

to be fine with it, but I do need to avoid wheat, which was an undiagnosed

sensitivity for my Mom. It's easy to test chocolate with an elimination

challenge. For those who can tolaterate it, the cocoa is the healthy part of

it.

I also avoid sugar too. It's generally an immune suppressant that retards

healing.

Deborah

Hi Jess,

Thanks so much for sharing this! My situation hasn't been as severe as yours

seems to have been, but I've also recently made big changes in my diet for the

sake of my health and have been enjoying great results. Specifically, I've cut

out any animal or wheat products and all refined sugar.

I was surprised to read that you recommend avoiding chocolate. I was thinking

that the chocolate itself is healthful, but that it was the milk and refined

sugar and other additives that made it a no-no.

Since I went vegan, I've been experimenting with making some vegan chocolate

creations with nuts and agave nectar and I have been feeling better, but would

it make me even better to lose the chocolate or eat it scarcely?

I really want to know what you all think. Thanks in advance,

Michael

Wheat

Hi all,

I'd just like to share something,

This year I quit my job to focus on better management of various health

problems -

One of the problems, I have had terrible bloating and reflux from wheat for

about 10 years, so severe I am on a waiting list to have part of my stomach

rebuilt.

HOWEVER the doctor told me I needed to lose 15kg (33lbs) for the surgery. I

have lost 10 (22lbs) now and still going. I don't want the surgery but I do want

to be better. To achieve this I went sugar and chocolate free. When I went sugar

and chocolate free my stomach has begun to heal, for real. Like, for real for

real.

I now use about 30% of the medication I used to use to protect my stomach and

esophagus and I notice I can tolerate wheat foods MUCH better.

At one stage before any food that I ate would cause huge and gross distention

of my abdomen. Now I can eat a couple of bits of wheat toast and... NO reaction.

None.

My whole body has changed shape and I have regained a feminine looking

stomach, rather than the 6 month pregnant look which actually led to many people

asking if I was pregnant.

I just wanted to share this because after over a decade of stomach problems

(without the stress of work and without the sugar and chocolate) I am finally

finding my stomach is HEALING

It's not the loss of fat that is different it's the pain and extreme bloating

and terrible reflux that has gone away. You know the difference.

I know it's actually really healing because my tolerance for all foods I

couldn't handle before including about 20 foods has improved and I can now have

a bit of this or that from time to time.

This may help you if your problems are irritable bowel related, my suggestion

try avoiding all sugar, just use agave or nothing, look at ALL sources of stress

and try to remove them and avoid chocolate like the plague. It has been about 4

months now and my whole life is different!

Cheers, Jess (New Zealand)
