Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear about your Mom, which is why I'm responding - otherwise, I'm afraid I can't help. That seems to me to be a medical matter, but, hey, since so many medics take dementia as being something that just happens in old age (and we know it shouldn't), perhaps some members here have experience with older relatives and this problem and can say what worked for them. I hope so. Best of luck, hon! Love and hugs, Pat > Hoping I can find some ideas from all of you. > My mom is 81 and has > dementia. . . . > supplementing her diet wtih B12 > and cayenne. Guest guest
With the same caveats as Pat (i.e., I'm not a doc), you might consider gingko biloba, which has been found to be somewhat effective against dementia and Alzheimer's, but of no discernable benefit to the healthy and/or young. This article gives a view to its recent history (mostly that of an opportunistic supplement industry): http://www.slate.com/id/2165042/pagenum/all/ What the article doesn't mention is how often g.b. interacts with medication, including aspirin. Any blood thinning agent, even garlic, should not be taken together with gingko as there've been reported cases of internal bleeding from the combination. Before surgeries and dental work, it's also often advised to stop taking any supplemental gingko for a while. -Erin http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog - Pat Friday, February 22, 2008 5:45 PM OT Dementia/ was Question /Help?
