Guest guest
My idea for a great family 'recipe' is to have in-laws who are vegetarians! I have looked at a few classifieds for vegetarian singles and they haven't been updated for a couple years. Is there a good place for vegetarians to 'meet' each other? My oldest two have meat-eating in-laws from hell....... My youngest two, college students, would like to meet someone nice, with relatives who are sane. If you know a female and/or male under 30 who fits that description - please email me! CT:oahspe2002/USA
Guest guest
LOL Recipe indeed! And a spicy one too! I suspect several members may know people in the age group who are vegetarians, but asking for sanity in the family, considering that most of the western world thinks that vegetarians are nutcases, is really complicating the issue. Wish I could help, hon, but I don't have a stable of young hopefuls at my disposal AND I long ago found that matchmaking was a doubtful avocation. Still, I appreciate the problem - many of us have it to some degree And somehow we all work it out for ourselves. Otherwise, you can google for vegetarian dating and see the sites that come up - it can't be much less personal than throwing out the request to our nearly fourteen hundred members or less of a gamble! And aren't there any veggie clubs at college which your kids could join to meet others? Hang around healthfood bars? Stalk people buying celery at the market? - whoops, the last not such a good idea!!! Anyway, good luck!!! And how nice that your kids have called you in to help out - a really close-knit family, I can tell Love and hugs, Pat --- On Fri, 7/25/08, CT <oahspe2002 wrote: CT <oahspe2002 Family Recipe Friday, July 25, 2008, 9:27 AM My idea for a great family 'recipe' is to have in-laws who are vegetarians! Guest guest
Pat & Carol - you are sweet! Well, my family lives around Joplin, MO and there are no such organized groups. I tried to get a Meetup going, but after the host insisted on serving sugary desserts and was 100 lbs overweight - and several guests kept going outside to have a smoke--it ended! My daughter drove to Springfield and everyone seemed to be over 40. My son drove over to their MSU campus and everyone (all 8 at the veggie meeting) was 'with' someone. Even Joplin's SPROUTS restaurant closed! I know I am fortunate that my hubby and I decided to switch off meat TOGETHER, but it makes it hard on the second generation when we moved to the countryside to raise some of our own organic veggies. They are great kids, but being raised in the country made them a bit shy--along with being the ONLY veggies in school. I'm from California and I don't understand 'shyness'. LOL! Madness? Yes! Thanks for the sympathy, though! Guest guest
I understand the smoking and too many sweets, but is his being 100 plus over weight really a problem to the point you didnt want anything to do with the group. I mean he could have been in the early stages of getting rid of he extra pounds. 'Do what thou wilt, but harm none'. Each individual is responsible for discovering his or her own true nature and developing it fully, in harmony with the outer world. Guest guest
Good question about the collapse of the vegetarian meetup in Joplin, MO. Actually the 'host' was a woman and 200lbs. She was preparing the sweets and remarked that she always ate the donuts at work so she could 'fit in'. No one in my family objected strongly to the smoker or the hostess. But after someone else asked her not to bring all the sweets around their children - she cancelled the next meeting and no one else was willing to host our potlucks. They didn't want to drive as far as my hobby farm. For those who have not joined a http://meetup.com --- you go online and list all the topics you are interested in and when there is enough/or a leader --- then the group can form and start emailing and meeting each other. It costs $9 pr month, but worth it IMO. Hey - I found a college student, 25, last night from Spfd who emailed my daughter about setting up a coffee date. Now, If I could find a vegetarian young lady 18 to 23 for my son! (Of course I know maybe none of us will like the 25 yr old - but its a start!) Listen, I'm on a diet myself and everyone should be if they have a weight problem. I was always underweight once I became a vegetarian, until I hit menopause. As a German-American, I didn't realize I would need to eat far less and far less carbs at that point in my life. Anyway, I'm on the vegetarian Dr. Atkins' diet and use http://fitday.com happily. I feel healthier and stronger than ever before. I remember visiting NYC when I was 19 and unable to walk around easily--today, it would be a 'piece of cake!'
