Guest guest
Nikki & Fraggle Many thanks for the info/links. I think the summer weather (yes - it is nice and warm and sunny here between storms) has started me off on this track. I shall follow the leads soon. Guest guest
Hello All.. I use edible flowers in my cooking all the time during the summer... I home-grow my own so I know exactly whats in them... There is something wonderful about taking a bite out of a sandwich with a nasturtiam in the middle! ;-) Rebecca On Behalf Of strayfeather1 26 April 2007 05:29 Re:Cucumber, Radish and Rose Petal Sandwiches This thread got me curious about edible flowers & I found these links which were interesting: http://homecooking.about.com/library/weekly/blflowers.htm http://www.ext.colostate.edu/Pubs/Garden/07237.html http://www.foodsubs.com/Flowers.html Peace, Diane , Ginger Fitzsimmons <matildalucet wrote: > > Ah, thanks! Guest guest
How many of us actually use edible flowers on a regular basis? Not too many, I think, but prompted by a post to one of my groups I did look up to find just how many different flowers could make an addition, allergies permitting, to our dinner tables, not simply as decoration but as part of the meal. Some links re edible flowers: http://www2.ville.montreal.qc.ca/jardin/en/info_verte/feuillet_fleurs_comes/tabl\ eau.htm http://flowerscanada.org/content/en/edible_flowers.htm A word of warning, however, we don't want to eat heavily sprayed flowers, and we do want to make sure we are not allergic to them - even if some are considered to be 'edible'. Another word of warning: What is 'edible' for some of us is not necessarily edible for our companion animals, so please be careful. For example, even a small portion of the leaf of some lilies (look it up!) will kill a grown cat if not treated aggressively by a veterinarian within a few hours of consumption. (My own cat's little life was all too recently hanging by a hair for nearly three days in Intensive Care after he grabbed a bit of a leaf in a bouquet, so I do know whereof I speak.) That aside, are there any flowers you like to eat? I love violets in tomato salad, for example! Love and hugs, Pat
