Guest guest
Welcome to the group from a former Cambridge resident - I spent several happy years there ending in 1971 though I never offered myself as a tour guide - my knowledge of the city was bounded by the natural food store, the arts cinema and the car park! Guess it's changed somewhat in 37 years anyway. Just to react to something you said, I was surprised and somewhat sceptical to hear your doctor demanded you should eat m**t or f**h once a week, although the advice may be applicable to your condition I'm sure there must be an alternative - might be worth looking for a second opinion, or the internet gives lots of opportunity for research into possibilities! The doctors I've encountered have not all been sympathetic to vegetarian or any other alternative life-style, and may have a tendency to mask their prejudices as edicts! Guest guest
Hi Dragon! Lovely to see you here too!!!! So glad you have joined us About the nut allergy: it's not the only source of concentrated protein etc. for vegans and vegetarians, and flax seed (which does not grow on trees) is a great source for omega-3. I see that co-owners Piers and Marie have already got you looking at alternatives to eating animal flesh (yuck!), and I suspect you'll be happier with it - unless, as Piers says, there is some medical reason which actually requires meat???? Docs can be so funny about these things, you know Have fun on this group - loads of good ideas in the recipe files, and of course you will already know how to pick and choose among them for the ones that are suitable for slimming! Guest guest
Hi Pat, Piers and Marie Re my eating of the (lets not mention the word!), my doc is actually veggie herself AND advocates a strongly veggie diet for health, however I have yet to find a safe source of seeds as over here they tend to be packaged on the same line as nuts and therefore are not safe for me. This and this reason alone is the only reason the docs recommend that I do not eat a fully veggie diet, I do try and eat a fair amount of Quorn, tofu and mushrooms and it is only one meal a week (I try and stretch it to a fortnight! but if I get run down I know what is causing that!) Guest guest
Hi again, Dragon! You write: >my doc is actually veggie herself AND advocates a strongly veggie diet for health, however I have yet to find a safe source of seeds as over here they tend to be packaged on the same line as nuts and therefore are not safe for me. Ouch!! Yes of course, I understand. And sometimes it's tricky to buy from totally veggie companies who are also totally anti-nut - practically an impossibility, I'd say - unless someone here has a wonderful source of guaranteed no-nut produce???? Well, hon, ya gotta do what ya gotta do - and if you have a vegetarian doc you're lucky. (Our doc is also veggie, lacto-veggie, but totally admiring of our eating style which just happens this decade to be vegan. Whew! What luck is THAT!) So keep doing what you have to do - and don't buy into a guilt trip - not that I think you will, but I just want to say that Enjoy this group - we have all kinds of veggies here and some non-veggies who come to enjoy the chat and the recipes We are cool with that. Be sure to write in often - promise? So nice to have you here, I say again. Guest guest
I have never heard of a veggie doctor and I think that's great. Jan Click on the " Fund Food for Animals " button at The Animal Rescue Site and give food to an animal living in a shelter or sanctuary -- at no cost to you. http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/tpc/ERA_091907_ARS " drpatsant " <drpatsant Sunday, August 10, 2008 5:02:45 PM Re: New member :-) Hi again, Dragon!
