Guest guest
This recipe I found in the Better Homes and Garden December issue magazine. Butter Cookies Preparation time: 60 minutes Baking tme: 6 minutes Makes: 3 dozen Cookies: 1 cup Land O lakes Butter, softened 1 cup sugar 1 egg 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour 2 tablespoons orange juice 1 tablespoon vanilla 1 teaspoon baking powder Frosting: 3 cups powdered sugar 1/3 cup Land O Lakes butter, softened 1 teaspoon vanilla 2-3 tablespoons milk combine 1 cup butter, sugar and egg in large bowl, beat at medium speed until creamy. Reduce speed to low; add flour, orange juice, vanilla and baking powder, beat until well mixed. divide dough into thirds; wrap each in plastic food wrap, refrigerate until firm (2 hours or overnight). heat oven to 4oo degrees, roll out dough on lightly foured surface, one third at a time (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thickness. cut with 3-inch cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets, bake for 6-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. cool completely. combine powdered sugar, 1/3 cup butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla in small bowl. Beat at low speed, gradually adding milk for desired spreading consistency. Frost and decorate cooled cookies as desired.
Guest guest
Thanks for that - I shall be trying to figure out how to tweak that recipe to suit my love of spices as well as adapting it to my own particular eating style. I don't usually eat cookies - not a habit I've ever had - but the holiday season is certainly the time to be making them! I'll be your kitchen smelled wonderful for a week!!!!! When are you baking again - I'll be right over in my cyber chariot Was this in an ad or contest? I wondered about the line about the butter: > 1 cup Land O lakes Butter, softened Maybe just a preference of the recipe originator? Or maybe your choice. But I imagine it doesn't much matter what kind is used - whereas flours do sometimes differ. But the difference between brands and baking results is a whole different discussion!!! (And one I'm not really qualified to enter.) Thanks again. Love and hugs, Pat

The cookbooks published by non-profits like church congregations and organizations like the Junior League often specify particular brands of staples in their recipes in return for a subsidy from that company. I think that Land O Lakes, which originated as a dairy cooperative, was always particularly active in that way -- especially in the upper Midwest. jrfm drpatsant wrote: > > Thanks for that - I shall be trying to figure out how to tweak that > recipe to suit my love of spices as well as adapting it to my own > particular eating style. Guest guest
Hmm - well of course. Shoulda thunk of that Still, I don't think this was a charity booklet. Anyway, doesn't matter. Any kind of butter or vegan sub. would work, I would think - yes? Wasn't trying to make a federal case out of it (now where on earth do I get that expression from?), just curious. Thanks a mil!
