Guest guest
Hi Vicki,  Welcome to the group. We have been a bit quiet recently but that may well be because a lot of the members have been knee-deep in Thanksgiving preparations.  Congratulations on your decision to change to a new way of eating. I hope you find the transition easy and you can be sure that there will always be someone here to answer any questions you may have have.  Our members have chosen a vegetarian lifestyle for many reasons. Thank you for telling us how you came to vegetarianism. I originally chose not to eat meat out of compassion for animals but, as a reasonably recently diagnosed diabetic, I feel I also gain health benefits.  My doctor and diabetes care nurse are not vegetarians but they fully support me in my choice.  I'm sure you will find the recipe files a big help when looking for new recipes. They are undergoing a bit of an overhaul at the moment but they are fully accessible. Just go to the group homepage and click on files. Here's the link to get there directly -   Cheers for now from Marie in Haarlem, Netherlands  --- On Tue, 25/11/08, vic44143 <vic44143 wrote: vic44143 <vic44143 Transitioning Tuesday, 25 November, 2008, 5:57 PM Hello everyone, I'm new to this group and new to vegetarianism (hope that's spelled right..hahaha) I am a cancer survivor and I have been reading up on becoming a vegetarian for quite some time and I read a news article today which talked about a healthier diet can lower risk of some cancers. Guest guest
Vicki & Marie - I am a cancer survivor too. I am sure that 30 years as a vegetarian helped me survive. I ate mostly fresh carrot juice & garlic when I had my cancer crisis. People can create a healthy layer of cells around tumors and then eject them from the body! That's one of the BIG SECRETS. My sons grew up as vegetarians but not my daughters (unless they find a vegetarian partner!) so this is the first year in 30 yrs that we're going to have both turkey and meatless dishes for the American Thanksgiving. I'm trying to train my daughter to keep the pans and utensils separate from those that I use, often storing them in the oven. (I don't think 'clean' means clean when we're talking about flesh-eating.) Yesterday in the USA, Oprah had Dr. Oz on---whose family is Vegan. He did a show on longevity and interviewed a 7th Day Adventist MD Heart Surgeon still operating at the age of 91 in California......another long time vegan. When I transitioned, I quit buying all meat and ate what was in my house, then didn't buy anything but fish for a few months. And then stopped the fish thirty years ago!
