I found a quickie recipe for shepherd's pie and I figured I would make it but

with veggie crumbles instead of you-know-what.  Shepherd's pie isn't spicy, of

course, but you could make it so!  This recipe calls for a bit of ketchup, so

why not SALSA!  :-)

How did you and your husband become vegetarians, Pat?

Anyone else want to tell? Rain?

I'm not a vegetarian, but a vegetarian wanna-be.

Various reasons. Mostly weak - habit - good intentions not enough - like

certain flavours.

Would love to try a good recipe for some kind of non " meat-pie " for

instance.

Most veggie crumbles are made from textured soy protein. Some are made

from a combination of soy protein and wheat gluten -- some of the

Tofurky mock meats are made from such a combination.

This month's Healthy Eating Catalog, a valuable vegetarian mail-order

source, was just e-mailed out today. If you're interested, you can look

at their catalog and their selection of textured soy and textured

vegetable proteins at:

I have no connection with the company, other than being an occasional

customer and being a recipient of their e-mail and postal lists.

Thanks JRFM,

I'll check out that link.

Avoiding animal-based food isn't my only concern. I also try not to use

ingredients that are heavily or over-processed, so I kind of wonder about

some of these things. And of course, out here they aren't available in the

grocery stores. I'm lucky when I can get tofu.
