Guest guest
Come on, I'm feeling lonely here all by myself. Where ARE you guys??? I've been rerunning some curries and developed some lovely spicy mushroom crepes (which I'll post today). Now, how about you? What're you eating - where? Was it good? What're you cookin'???? Love and hugs to all, Pat
Guest guest
Sorry Pat ! I haven't been on much as I have been trying to get some stitching done and trying not to panic about the fact that Dr Dragon has a 2nd interview next Monday and therefore may actually have a job again! Anyhow - planning on a Thai veggie stir fry tonight with cardamon rice (yum!) - hmm I think I may plan a potato curry for later in the week. Guest guest
Hi Pat,  I'm here after having spent the last 3+ weeks fighting an 'on again, off again' battle with some sort of flu type bug. Each time I thought I was over the worst it would hit me again after a couple of days. I'm not definitely saying I'm over it now but I have felt semi-OK since Saturday so I am hopeful that the worst is over.  As for what I have been eating - soup, soup and more soup apart from one amusing fight with a packet of something I bought at a Chinese supermarket.  It was described as a frozen green onion pie. When I opened it up it turned out not to be a pie at all but rather it was 6 pancakes flavoured with green onions. Here are the less than helpful cooking instructions, exactly as they were written on the packet.  Revoliving and beating the gried cooked pie with hands from surroundings into center of Pie to a crisp.  First fried the pie then add riped pork, bacon, ham or vegetable, cheese and rolled the pie to wrap the various foods.  Put little oil, pour into the egg and added pie onto the egg with mild oven to cook.  Fried it till the pie to golden-brown color with two side.  The whole thing turned out to be a bit of a disaster. I fried the pancakes lightly in a little spiced wok oil. I would say the pancakes tasted like shoe leather but that would be giving shoe leather a very bad name! I made a topping of a concoction of onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, garlic and tofu strips marinated in soy sauce and chilli flakes. The topping was delicious but the pancakes added precisely nothing to the culinary experience.  I am sure your revamped and new recipes will have been a lot more exciting than my one venture into the wonderful world of the kitchen (apart form making huge pots of soup) in the last three weeks. I am looking forward to your mushroom crepes recipe - I HAS to be better than our pancakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Hugs from Marie   drpatsant <drpatsant Hey, Where IS Everyone?????? Guest guest
Hi Marie - hope you're soon feeling better. Soup is definitely the way to go when you're feeling low, isn't it! That packaged frozen pancake sounds like a real loser. Hugs, Pat

Guest guest
Marie, Sounds like it might've been a frozen version of my Dad and sister's favorite Chinese restaurant guilty pleasure, the scallion pancake. It comes with a similarly infused soy sauce for dipping, making it not only high fat, but high salt. LOL. They don't come stuffed at the restaurant, but are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. -Erin http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog - Marie Rieuwers Monday, February 09, 2009 10:45 AM Re: Hey, Where IS Everyone?????? Guest guest
Yes, Erin, Scallion Pancakes are an old standby - and very good they can be too I made some last week, although rather more as a thin crepe than like the ones described here. Making them yourself means you can control fat and salt, of course, as with other foods made from scratch. I can't imagine they'd freeze well, however *shrug* Best, Pat --- http://beanvegan.blogspot.com http://www.vegandonelight.com/spice " The world is a stage, but the play is badly cast. Guest guest
Hi all, the first Indian market in my area has opened about 10 miles away from me. I had a great time buying spices. Can I get a recommendation for a sweet curry powder either brand or recipe? I have a problem with collecting every curry powder I see and I also make my own. My latest find is Lesley Elizabeth Thai Curry-its really good and on the hot side. Donna
