A club run by some cool vegans for California. It's mostly chit-chat

about veganism, animals, and Depeche Mode. Strange combination, I know. :-D

Dear Jo

Shamefully, no. I'm in pretty much the same boat, plus I've lost contact

with the people I used to go with. I don't mind going to local(ish) demo's

on my own (that's how I started, drove to Shamrock one Halowe'en, hoping I'd

find someone friendly. I didn't know anyone else in AR at all then), but I

wouldn't feel safe going to, say, Huntingdon on my own. Plus which, I don't

trust my car to get me there and back in a day! (And Edith would nag me if I

did!). I used to go on the JFA coach with a friend. but her life has become

staggeringly complicated lately and without her I'm a bit stranded. I was

away last weekend anyway so couldn't do HLS. I try to make up for it in

other ways - I've been delivering Viva! leaflets through doors asking people

to go veggie for Christmas and I did a stall in town the weekend before

last, giving out veggie recipes and Viva! leaflets. I've also been writing

to AR prisoners - it must be very hard to be in prison at this time of year.

Next weekend I'm serving in the Cat & Rabbit Rescue shop on Saturday and I

shall be helping with their accounts on Tuesday evening. All of which is

not said to prove how worthy I am, but to offset my shame at not having done

any demos for ages. I think the last was Wickham Laboratories, or possibly

Porton Down, I can't remember which order they were in. Or was the Uncaged

die-in the last? I can't remember, but I know I've not been on any for a

couple of months.

Good to hear from you.

It sounds like you are pretty busy to me. Delivering leaflets is a very

worthwhile thing to do, because it does spread the word to people who would

not make an effort to find out by themselves, even though it doesn't feel as

though you get much feed back from it.

I know I wouldn't be brave enough to go to demos by myself. Luckily Colin

takes me and supports me with everything I want to do.

We haven't done much over the last few months - due to family

death/problems. I shall start off by letter-writing again I think, and see

where we go from there.

Dear Angie (How are you?) I live in Bognor - about thirty miles (1 hour

plus) from Brighton, somewhat less to Hove because you don't have to

struggle through the Brighton traffic which is generally dreadful. As I said

before, I used to get the JFA coach to demos, which leaves from Hove. It

was brilliant to have other people to go with, makes you feel so much safer,

though it did mean a VERY long day sometimes!

Cheers

Welcome to the group,

Two of my children are on the autistic spectrum, and this has been a

blessing for us. We have been on the diet for 2 years, with nothing

but success!! But it's not easy at first!

We are gluten free and casein free. I would suggest you also join

the gfcf recipes group also (most of the kiddos there are autistic/as

and they also follow this diet). I find the meld of both groups

makes a good resource for me :)

Hi Charlene! Welcome!

You're lucky to be living in CA... I suspect you'll find a lot of

health stores, vegetarian restaurants, etc. in your neck of the woods.

I live in WV... there's nothing around here except steak houses and

Wal-Mart. ;)

I recently joined this group, too, but everyone seems supportive and

encouraging!

Hi Nate, and welcome to the Feral Vegetarian - this is a great bunch of

people with great ideas (and yes, great recipes too, though not all

vegan of course). For myself, I am in transition, I guess most people

would say. I'm a long time veggie (around 20-22 years, I figure, with

some setbacks in there), but only gave up eggs and dairy early this year

;=) I'll look forward to chatting with you here.

Best,

Pat/Canada

Fabulous! There's a book out there that addresses myths about diabetes and

one of the myths was that you can't be veg...it said it's actually

especially good for diabetics to go vegan! It was written by the American

Diabetes Association, but I can't remember the name. It could be a handy

resource though. My dad is diabetic, so I'm especially thankful that a

vegan diet reduces my risk.

Protein isn't hard to get at all. Beans, lentils, soy, gluten, nuts...I

probably get more than I should, even. Mung beans have as much protein as

beef. Tvp has as much as chicken.
