You have no present heart problems that you know of, just a family history. Hawthorn is for a very specific kind of heart problem, and isn't usually used as a general preventive (and it does nothing for vessel blockage anyway.). Don't tinker in the dark with the action of what may be a perfectly healthy heart. My personal suggestion (and that's all it is!) would be to read /up thoroughly/ on herbs and supplements that protect the heart and blood vessels but don't significantly modify present heart action, Besides a good multivitamin, CoQ-10 comes to mind, but there are others, including simple anti-inflammatories like vitamin C. (Try reading James Duke, Andrew Weil and Earl Mindell on the subject--not all herb or supplement writers are created equal, but those three are solid. And then read onlinje updates to what they wrote--a few things they recommended in the '80s and '90s turned out to have a downside. High-potency selenium supplements are the most notable.).) And please, don't go taking huge doses on the theory that if some is good, more is better, or take a whole bunch of different herbs at once. Finally, watch your blood pressure. . . .it's important. Yes, hawthorn may bring it down, but I'd look for something else, and I'd read up on it well. Herbs are drugs, and they deserve careful and respectful handling.
