Guest guest
soyco makes vegan cheeses. you can check out their website and order directly or check out your natural food markets. it's not easy to find. they also make a grated "parmesan" sprinkles cheese too. - Maureen & Dale Smith Saturday, September 16, 2000 12:50 PM Re: cheese is it tofutti.com?maureen-"Dunno Nuttin" <peacedabearSaturday, September 16, 2000 8:36 AM cheese>>> Hey Juli,>> Yeah tofutti has mozzeralla, american and cheddar soy cheese. Guest guest
>ps: I love cheese. Does anyone know where to find fake vegan blue cheese, smoked gouda, brie, port wine cheeseballs, and other delicacies? You can make your own with recipes from the Uncheese Cookbook by Joanne Stepaniak: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0913990426 The brie even melts! Guest guest
A little warning in case you've forgotten or never new - especially newbies here. When buying cheese, be sure to get vegetarian cheese. Traditionally cheese is made with rennet (which is made from the stomach lining of a calf), although more and more cheeses are now being made with an artificial form of rennet made from vegetable matter. Try this site: http://cheese.joyousliving.com/ Vegans should be warned that all soy or rice cheese is not vegan - even, as I found once, soy or rice cheese that says it is dairy free. The thing to watch for on the label is Casein, which is a by-product of the dairy cheese-making process. True vegan cheese will have no casein in it. Hope this helps - although it may make it more complicated when dining out.
